In 1984, Roland released its classic Juno-106, which became one of the most celebrated electronic instruments of the decade. And now the classic six-voice polysynth has been lovingly recreated by Softube as the Model 84 plugin, promising “the sound of the 80s”
Softube promises to recreate every element of the Juno-106’s six-voice architecture right down to component level, and adds a few new features in to spice things up. The iconic factory presets are here and we are informed to expect authentically modelled mod- and pitchwheel assignments, filter tracking and proper voice allocation.
With all that in mind, we are assured, it is a synth that sounds and behaves just like the original, but then goes beyond it with an extended unison mode, velocity and aftertouch support and an expanded control panel.
Model 84 is working as a VST/AU/AAX plugin on PC and Mac, and is also compatible with Softube Modular and Amp Room platforms.
Synth4ever has introduced Supersonic, a collection of versatile custom sounds for the UDO Super 6 Synthesizer, covering pads, strings, leads, sequences, arps, keys, textures, bass and FX.
Here is what they have to say about the sound library:
“The Super 6 is a beautiful sounding, versatile and powerful digital/analog hybrid synth, and I tried to push it in new directions when creating many of these patches using firmware v0.26. In addition to traditional “bread and butter” sounds, this UDO Super 6 soundset also includes some experimental motion loops, generative soundscapes and texture-based approaches to sound design.
These 64 custom patches will install to user banks A-H on your UDO SUPER 6, and nearly all contain tasteful aftertouch and pitch bend (positive and negative) modulation assignments. This gives you additional expression and timbre possibilities within the patch itself – so be sure to experiment with these controllers!
Overall, I’m proud of the SUPERSONIC soundset and believe it covers a lot of interesting sonic territory for musicians and listeners alike. Thanks for your interest in and support of my work; I hope you enjoy exploring and performing with these patches on your UDO Super 6 as much as I do on mine, should you wish to acquire them.”
In the video, all sounds are from UDO Super 6 without external effects, mastering or compression.
Host Ziv Eliraz takes an in-depth look at the Norand Mono, a new synth that pairs an all-analog signal path with deep control and performance options.
The Norand Mono features ‘contextual modulation’, a unique modulation system that gives you full control over every parameter. Each parameter has its own envelope and audio-frequency modulator – with 13 dedicated envelopes for modulation and 20 dedicated modulators. Other features include a sequencer with ratcheting and probability per step, continuously variable waveforms and a wide range of randomization features.
