RoEx releases Automix “The Future of AI-Powered Music Production”

Automix is a free AI tool that will mix your music for you, and you can try it right now for free.

An ‘automatic mixing’ solution has long been mooted – one that will save musicians from having to learn anything about engineering and just make their songs ‘sound good’ – and the rise of AI has made it seem to arrive.

The platform is known as Automix by RoEx. The company previously released an AI tool designed to ‘listen’ to your mix and then tell you what’s wrong with it, and now it’s gone the whole hog and developed one that will take the reins and do the actual mixing as well.

Automix is a web-based application that enables you to upload your multitracks, adjust a few basic preferences for each of them (instrument type, level of reverb required, desired pan position) and then you sit back and watch as the AI takes care of the rest.

You can also choose the overall style of your mix and assign a level of importance to each track – low, medium or high – which indicates how much ‘presence’ you want it to have in the finished song.

“Just as Instagram transformed photography by making filters universally accessible, we aspire to revolutionize the world of music production,” says RoEx CEO David Ronan (via MusicWeek). “We recognize the modern musician’s desire for professional sound without the intimidating complexities of compressors, EQ settings, or the necessity for costly studios and intricate plugins. Our mission is to make top-tier production quality both accessible and efficient for all creatives, without any barriers.”

What’s more, according to Ronan, this could be just the start: “Looking to the future, we envisage our technology integrating seamlessly with various DAWs, whether they are traditional desktop systems or emerging cloud- based platforms,” he says. “While the exact roadmap is still unfolding, our direction is unwavering: to democratise professional music creation, making it accessible and intuitive for all.”

Automix can only work with eight tracks at a time, but it’s fair to say we’ve never seen anything quite like this before. The platform even promises to master your music, ready for release (it’s perhaps significant that one of the other directors of RoEx is Josh Reiss, one of the co-founders of online mastering platform LANDR).

If you want to test Automix you can do so for free on the RoEx website. You’ll just need to create an account. Your finished, mixed tracks can be downloaded on a pay-what-you-want basis.

Erica Synths Black Stereo Reverb + Black Stereo Delay 2 for Eurorack Systems

Erica Synths has introduced the Black Stereo Reverb and the Black Stereo Delay 2, designed to “significantly expand the FX palette on any modular system”.

Instead of a generic multi-FX approach, they say that they decided to develop dedicated modules with extended controls over the most important parameters.

The modules run on new Erica Synths DSP hardware and the effects are developed in collaboration with Dutch company 112.dB.

Black Stereo Delay 2

The Erica Synths Black Stereo Delay 2 is a hi-fi stereo delay, based on their custom DSP engine. Tape, BBD and digital delay emulations with three modes, each accompanied with delay time, feedback, feedback tone and stereo spread controls allow for designing extremely delicate effects.

The module also features CV control over various parameters and the ability to save up to 10 presets.

Features

  • Tape, BBD and digital delay types
  • Three modes for each type
  • Tap and clock synchronization of delay time
  • 10 preset patches
  • CV control over delay time, feedback, tone, dry/wet mix and preset selection
  • Adjustable stereo delay spread

Black Stereo Reverb

The Erica Synths Black Reverb is a versatile hi-fi stereo FX module with a variety of unique features, based on their custom DSP engine.

The reverb sources are selectable – Tape, BBD and “dirty BBD” digital; emulations with three modes, each – Room, Hall and Cathedral. Delicate room size control, feedback, feedback tone and stereo spin controls allow for designing delicate reverberation effects.

The module features CV control over various parameters and the ability to save up to 10 presets.

Features:

  • Reverb based on Tape, BBD and digital delay lines
  • Three room sizes
  • Manual and triggered FREEZE with 1V/oct tracking
  • 10 preset patches
  • CV control over size, feedback, tone, dry/wet mix and preset selection
  • Adjustable stereo spin

Erica Synths Black Stereo Reverb and Black Stereo Delay 2 will both be shipping October 10, 2023, and each will retail for € 280.

Tiptop Audio & Buchla Mixer/Preamplifier 207t + Programmable Spectral Processor 296t Modules Coming Soon

Tiptop Audio let us know that the latest modules in their series of collaboration with Buchla will be available soon.

Announced at Superbooth 2021, the Tiptop Audio + Buchla USA 200t series modules back classic Buchla 200 Series modules as affordable Eurorack modules.

Here’s the news that they shared about the new modules:

They’ve completed prototyping and beta testing for the Model 207t Mixer/Preamplifier, above, which was introduced earlier this year at Superbooth 2023.

“We are very happy with how nice both the mixing stage and the microphone preamplifier sound,” they note. “Production has started and we plan to get the 207t released late November early December and will probably price it about $249.

The Mixer/Preamplifier 207t is essentially a reissue of the classic Buchla Mixer/Preamplifier Model 207 in Euro format. It features a six-channel stereo mixer ,with voltage-controlled panning and a single channel preamplifier with impedance and gain switches for a variety of input levels. Also included are per-channel program and monitor switches and a monitor output.

The Model 296t Spectral Processor is a 16-channel bandpass filter, with built-in analysis and synthesis capability. It can be used as a real-time performance filter, an equalizer and part of a vocoder.

Each frequency band has its own control input and envelope follower output, allowing for a wide range of transformations.

“Since its introduction at Super Booth, we have worked on fine-tuning every single function and optimizing automation testing for mass production,” they note. “These efforts have helped us reduce the estimated production cost greatly, and, if there are no last-minute surprises, we are looking at an amazing price of $699 for this jewel of a module. The module will start production next week and, if we are lucky, we might be able to get it out to you early/mid December.

Details on the module are available at the Tiptop Audio website.
