Wizdom Music has introduced GeoShred 7.

Wizdom Music let us know that they’ve released GeoShred 7, which includes, for the first time, GeoShred Studio For Mac.

GeoShred, originally introduced for iOS, is designed to provide users with next-level expressive control over synthesis. The app features a unique performance interface with physics-based models of effects and musical instruments. GeoShred is now available as an AUv3 plug-in for desktop DAWs, to support professional music production workflows.

GeoShred Studio, an AUv3 plug-in, is now available for macOS devices. Paired with GeoShredConnect, musicians can establish a MIDI/MPE connection between their iOS device running GeoShred and GeoShred Studio. This means you can use GeoShred’s expressive multi-dimensional control with the plugin in your DAW, so you can use your iOS device as MIDI/MPE controller, and then refine and edit the performance in your DAW.

iCloud support also meaning that presets are synchronized between the iOS and macOS versions of GeoShred. For example, a preset saved on the iOS version of GeoShred automatically syncs with GeoShred Studio, so that your sound library is current, no matter where you are working.

Equipped with a built-in guitar physical model and 22 modeled effects, GeoShred Studio offers an impressive array of sonic possibilities. For those looking to expand their musical palette, an additional 33 physically modeled instruments from around the globe are available as in-app purchases (IAPs). These instruments range from guitars and bowed strings to woodwinds, brass, and traditional Indian and Chinese instruments.

*Note: GeoShred Studio is designed to be performed expressively using GeoShred’s isomorphic keyboard. For users who don’t own the iOS version, the free GeoShred Control MPE controller is available for use with GeoShred Studio. GeoShred Studio is also compatible with MPE controllers, conventional MIDI controllers, and even breath controllers, offering a wide range of performance options.

GeoShred Studio is available now free to download, but core functionality requires the purchase of GeoShred Studio Essentials for $37. Additional instruments are available as in-app purchases.

Soviet Synthesizer on Steriods

The US developer puts a fresh spin on the Polivoks, with extra polyphony, expanded modulation and new effects.

US developer Cherry Audio has in recent years emerged as an incredibly prolific emulator of vintage instruments. In the past twelve months alone, Cherry has released virtual recreations of the Rhodes Chroma, Korg PS-3300, Wurlitzer 140B, ARP Pro Soloist, Oberheim’s SEM modules and Roland’s CR-78 drum machine.

Churning out plugins is one thing, but what’s been most impressive about Cherry Audio’s recent output is its consistent quality.

With its latest plugin Atomika, Cherry Audio’s sights are set on the Soviet-era Formanta Polivoks, a two-voice analogue synthesizer produced and sold in the USSR during the 1980s. Although rare in the West at the time of its production, the Polivoks has become sought-after on the second hand market due to its distinctive sound, which comes from its notoriously unstable oscillators, gritty filter and quick-to-distort signal path.

Atomika aims to capture that personality, but also expands on the design of the original in several important ways. The polyphony is raised from the Polivoks’ two-voices to a total of 16, with the extra addition of a unison mode. Atomika also expands on the flexibility of the original’s low/band-pass filter with new high-pass, notch and peak modes.

The LFO section has also been expanded here, with more waveshape options. Atomika also broadens the performance and modulation options by letting users route velocity, aftertouch, key-tracking, pitch and mod wheel into the synth engine.

On top of this, Atomika also throws a new effect section into the mix, with phaser, flange/chorus, delay and reverb modules, along with a simple arpeggiator.

Like other Cherry Audio plugins, Atomika benefits from a smart, resizable UI with a ‘focus’ zoom feature, and user-definable oversampling. While the plugin’s interface is labelled in English by default, users can also opt for a theme that reverts to the original Cyrillic script.

‘Like having a seasoned engineer in a classic analogue studio’

As part of its Constellations launch event, Universal Audio has announced the release of a several new products, including the next generation of Apollo X interfaces and plugin versions of three of its amp emulation pedals.

That’s not all, though; today UA unveils a new vocal production plugin which it says offers everything you need to create perfect vocal mixes: Topline Vocal Suite.

At the heart of Topline Vocal Suite is its vocal tuner, which can handle everything from transparent pitch correction to robotic hard-tuning. UA tells us that it’s “never been so easy” to dial in vocal tuning: simply identify the key and scale of your track with Topline’s Key Finder, or set manually, and the plugin will take care of the rest.

Vocals can be tuned in close to real-time thanks to Topline’s low-latency Live Mode, so you’re able to experiment with pitch correction on-the-fly or even use the plugin for live performance. The plugin is equipped with over 150 presets designed by mix engineers known for working with Beyoncé, The Weeknd, and U2.

Topline Vocal Suite is much more than just a pitch correction plugin, though; UA has kitted it out with a variety of tools for vocal production and additional effects, including emulations of classic analogue hardware.

Vintage-inspired mic preamps and tape-style saturation are joined by a handy vocal compressor and an easy-to-use EQ, while a versatile multi-effects section with delay, reverb and modulation can be used to lend your vocals space, depth and character.

In other news, UA has announced that its software emulations of the famed SSL 4000 Series console, SSL 4000 E Channel Strip Collection and SSL 4000 G Bus Compressor Collection, are now available as native plugins.

Topline Vocal Suite is available now for macOS and Windows in VST/VST3/AU/AAAX formats, and priced at an introductory discount of $199.
