Get Now Free Plugins Bundle, UAD Explore FREE

UAD Explore FREE, you will get 8 free UAD plugins + LUNA Recording System.

Universal Audio has unveiled a new free software bundle that brings together eight of its most sought-after plugins in a single package, along with LUNA, the company’s AI-powered DAW. The software is available for both macOS and Windows with no UA hardware required.

UAD Explore FREE features a number of Universal Audio’s well-regarded software emulations of classic analogue gear, including the company’s plugin recreations of the UA 1176 and Teletronix LA-2A , undoubtedly the most famous compressors in recording history.

Alongside the 1176 Classic FET Compressor and Teletronix LA-2A Tube Compressor plugins, you also get UA’s 610 Tube Preamp and EQ Collection, which brings together two plugins based on Universal Audio channel strips, the vintage UA 610-A and the modern UA 610-B.

The 610 plugins are built to recreate the rich and characterful tube saturation produced by UA preamps, with both input and output circuits equipped with an independent tube-driven gain-stage. Both plugins also offer broad-strokes tone-shaping, with the 610-B providing finer control over frequency ranges.

UA also adds in the Century Tube Channel Strip, a vintage-inspired recording channel that comprises a virtual tube preamp, three-band EQ and an optical compressor.

This is joined by Vibe Analog Machines Essentials, a tool designed to bring expressive character and warmth to mixes via four different flavours of tape-style saturation, and Pure Plate Reverb, a meticulously modelled plate reverb emulation that UA says captures all of “the sonic and mechanical nuances” of this beloved electromechanical effect.

UAD Explore FREE has something for the guitarists amongst you, too, in the form of the UAD Showtime ’64 Tube Amp, an amp sim released late last year. The plugin is based on the punchy tones of a vintage Fender Showman, a high-headroom tube amp originally designed for surf music pioneer Dick Dale that’s been relied upon by The Beatles, John Frusciante and David Gilmour, among others.

Alongside these seven effects is one of Universal Audio’s few software instruments, the PolyMAX synth. Drawing inspiration from the “golden age of polysynthesis”, PolyMAX is billed as a “modern synth with retro roots”: it’s a solid, straightforward poly with an intuitive interface that makes designing basic patches quick and relatively simple.

Joining these eight plugins in the bundle is LUNA, a DAW that has a number of UA’s analogue emulations embedded in its mixing workflow, integrating the sound of classic channel strips, consoles, and tape machines into the DAW itself. Last year, LUNA was updated with a number of AI-powered features, including voice control and automatic instrument and tempo detection.

Included in UAD Explore FREE:

  • UA 1176 Classic FET Compressor
  • Teletronix LA-2A Tube Compressor
  • UA 610 Tube Preamp & EQ Collection
  • Pure Plate Reverb
  • Vibe Analog Machines Essentials
  • Showtime ’64 Tube Amp
  • Century Tube Channel Strip
  • PolyMAX Synth
  • LUNA Digital Audio Workstation

Almost all of these titles have been given away for free at various points in the past for limited time periods, but UAD Explore FREE marks the first time the company has bundled this many together and offered them up free of charge on a perpetual basis.

If you’re just getting started with recording, this would make an excellent starter pack that covers most of the bases, but even if you’re a seasoned producer with an extensive plugin collection, UAD Explore FREE is a golden opportunity to snag some of UA’s most popular software tools for nothing.

UAD Explore FREE is available now from the Universal Audio website.

To download the bundle, you’ll need to create a Universal Audio account, install the UA Connect app and activate the plugins with iLok. Here’s a guide to getting started.

Moog Music Celebrates Its Founder’s Legacy & Innovations With Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D

Moog Music has unveiled a limited-edition version of its Minimoog Model D reissue, the Bob Moog Tribute Edition, of which only 500 units will be available worldwide.

Each Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D will be hand-assembled in Moog’s North Carolina production facility.

Not only honouring the legacy of Bob Moog and celebrating “the technology and imagination of electronic musical instrument design”, but supports The Bob Moog Foundation, an independent non-profit dedicated to preserving Bob Moog’s legacy. The Bob Moog Tribute Edition will be hand-built by the Moog Music team in North Carolina.

Functionally, the Tribute Edition is the same synth as Moog’s 2022 reissue of the Minimoog Model D, combining a meticulous all-analogue recreation of the sound engine and signal path of the original ’70s instrument with a handful of modern enhancements.

These updates include comprehensive MIDI support, an analogue LFO with triangle and square waveforms, a self-centering spring-loaded pitch wheel and a Fatar keybed with velocity and aftertouch accessible via top-panel CV ports.

There’s also a neat mixer modification that allows you to dial in the same feedback-based overdrive that ’70s synthesists achieved by routing the synth’s output into its external input, giving you that classic warm and distorted tone with the twist of a knob.

What’s new:

The differences are purely aesthetic: the Bob Moog Tribute Edition arrives in a custom quartersawn white oak cabinet (the 2022 reissue was bedecked in Appalachian cherry wood) and you’ll find a custom Bob Moog Foundation decal on the rear panel. The synth also comes with a semi-rigid case custom-built for the Model D.

The instrument features a custom badge that uses a metal photo-anodization process, which harkens back to the modular panel graphics found on the System 55, System 35, and Model 10 synthesizers, as well as select early R.A. Moog Co. Minimoogs.

And while the Bob Moog Tribute Edition’s aesthetic tweaks are relatively minor, the bragging rights associated with its limited-edition status might well be priceless to the diehard collectors amongst you. And, $500 from the sale of each synth will be donated directly to the Bob Moog Foundation, supporting the Moogseum, Dr. Bob’s Sound School, and the preservation of the Bob Moog Foundation Archives, so you’ll get a side order of good karma too.

The Bob Moog Tribute Edition Minimoog Model D is priced at $3,999.

Haken Continuum Introduces Slim 21 Compact Continuum Synthesizer

Haken Audio has introduced the Slim 21, the latest addition to their Continuum Fingerboard line.

The Slim 21 Continuum offers the full engine and capabilities of their flagship Continuum expressive instrument, but with a smaller 21-note range. It’s based on the EaganMatrix Sound Engine, which has been designed specifically to deliver an expressiveness and immediacy that rivals traditional acoustic instruments.

The Continuum tracks each finger individually with microscopic accuracy, using up to 12 independent Hall-Effect sensors per finger. The analog output of each sensor is digitized by ultra-high speed A/D converters. A typical note played on the Continuum will have data from hundreds of thousands of Hall-Effect samples, allowing for exponentially more accuracy and sensitivity than traditional keyboards.

An in-depth overview and demo from composer Josh Madoff:

The Haken Audio Slim 21 is available now for $1,799 USD.
