Free Sound Library For Korg modWave Synthesizer

Podcaster and sound designer Ian Dixon has released another in his series of free sound libraries for the Korg modWave synthesizer, The Organ Collection.

What he has to say about it:

“This is my Organ collection for the Korg Modwave, designed to give you classic organ tones with modern control. Inspired by the Modwave’s four modulation controls, I’ve created a set of organ patches that use these as real-time drawbars to deliver an authentic organ sound. You’ll find recreations of classic organs from artists like Genesis and Pink Floyd, including CX3, DW8000, Korg M1, Polysix, and even Vox Continental organs.

The patches take full advantage of the Modwave’s effects section, modulation controls, and the Kaoss pad, giving you complete control over the sound. Whether you’re looking for vintage organ tones or creative new possibilities, this free sound pack has something for every synth lover.”

In addition to offering a preview of the sound library, Dixon also shares tips for sound design on the modWave.

The Organ Collection for the Korg Modwave is available now as a free download.

New Leviasynth On The Way From The Makers Of Hydrasynth

It looks like a new synth is on the way from Ashun Sound Machines (ASM), makers of the Hydrasynth.

Their parent company, MEDELI Electronics, has applied for a US patent for the name ‘Leviasynth’.

They’ve applied to use this with the following goods and services:

Pianos; Electronic musical instruments; Electronic pianos; Keyboard instruments; Keyboards for musical instruments; Music synthesizers; Musical instruments; Percussion instruments; Piano keyboards; Stringed musical instruments; Tuners for musical instruments; Wind instruments; Digital pianos; Music synthesizer for making drum sounds

The status of the request is Pending.

They’ve also registered ‘Leviasynth’ as a trademark within the European Union, in the category of Musical Instrument Products.

MEDELI Electronics has previously registered ‘Ashun’, ‘Hydrasynth’ and ‘Polytouch’.

The ASM Hydrasynth, above, was introduced in 2019, and was one of the most audacious debuts for a new company in recent memory. The Hydrasynth pairs a massively deep sound engine with a keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch, and an interface that offers lots of real time synthesis control.

The Hydrasynth was an immediate hit, and ASM has followed it up with three variations – the Hydrasynth Desktop, Hydrasynth Explorer, and Hydrasynth Deluxe – delivering the same powerful synth engine in designs ranging from entry-level to flagship.

Ashun has not made any announcement related to the Leviasynth yet, so it will be interesting if they’ve got something new to show at the 2025 NAMM Show. We’ll share official details if and when they become available.

Behringer LmDrum Drum Machine In-Depth Demo

Today, Behringer  shared this in-depth video demo for their new LmDrum drum machine.

While the LmDrum case, name and styling position it as a knockoff of the classic Linn Electronics LinnDrum, it’s actually a very different design, supporting sampling and on-board sample editing.

In the video, Patrick (aka PatchDog) offers a deep dive into the LmDrum:

The Behringer LmDrum has been one of the company’s more controversial introductions, because of its unauthorized copying of the LinnDrum.

LinnDrum creator Roger Linn shared his take on the LmDrum over the weekend, noting “It is clearly intended to evoke my 1982 LinnDrum drum machine, borrowing its visual style, control layout, colors and logo style, as well as copying its sounds and those of my LM-1 and Linn9000 drum machines.”

The Behringer LMDrum is now shipping from their factory, priced at $399. It typically takes several months from when they start shipping for new introductions to be available at retailers.
