Slap by Yum Audio, “making your drums slap”

Slap is a new one-stop drum processing plugin from Yum Audio and producer Mr Bill.

Mr Bill – an EDM producer, film composer, DJ, YouTuber, podcaster and live streamer – has provided a wide selection of presets designed to give you his signature sound, and you can also import your own audio for transient replacement purposes.

Make your kicks and snares hit harder in an instant.

Designed to provide “instant slap” for your rhythm tracks, this combines a click-replacement tool and a multi-effect unit, and is specifically tailored to add – you guessed it – ‘slap’ to your snares and kicks.

The Click module can be used to replace any layer or transient, while the six FX modules – Clap, Shape, Fat, Spray, Clipper and Sub – can be routed as you wish via drag-and-drop. Additionally, Tone section enables you to glue everything together, a global Tune control and a global FX control   for scaling the processing amount of all of the FX modules at once.

Lastly, there is a waveform display with multiple visualisation modes.

Slap runs on PC and Mac in VST/AU/AAX formats is available now for the introductory price of $94.34/£72 and Free 14-day trial (regular price $156.74/£105).

Cherry Audio Galactic Reverb, “extraterrestrial ambience”

Cherry Audio has released Galactic Reverb, an algorithmic processor that is designed to capture the sound of classic digital hardware reverbs.

This new plugin effect line-up with a decay time of up to a whopping 35 seconds, you should be able to create some pretty enormous spaces. In fact, the way Cherry Audio tells it, you can use it to “transport guitars, drums, keys, and even vocals into an extraterrestrial ambience”.

Galactic seems to look and sounds familiar, because it began life in Cherry Audio Dreamsynth instrument, but it includes few new features – modulation, predelay, an EQ and a ducking function that can be used to automatically reduce reverb levels, making it on its way to becoming a plugin in its own right.

Offering more than 50 presets, and suitable for use as an insert or bus effect, Galactic runs on PC and Mac in VST/AU/AAX formats.

Features:

  • Modeled classic reverb.
  • Modulation from 0.10 Hz to 5.00 Kz.
  • Damping control for reverb.
  • Pre-Delay from 0.00 ms to 500 ms.
  • Decay from 0.00 ms to 35000 ms.
  • Ducking with attenuation and recovery time controls.
  • Equalizer with low and high frequency controls.
  • Use as an insert or bus effect.
  • Compatible with mono or stereo input sources.
  • Preset browser with over 50 Presets for Drums, Ducking, Guitars, Keys, and Vocals, favoriting, and user presets.
  • Full MIDI control and DAW automation for all controls.
  • Preset and Global level MIDI mapping.
  • User-selectable themes.

Galactic is currently available for the intro price of $19, rising to $29 in due course.

Noise Engineering introduces Virt Iter Legio, Librae Legio, the Legio Oscillator and DSP Platform

Noise Engineering has introduced the Legio oscillator/DSP platform for Eurorack modular systems – Virt Iter Legio and Librae Legio.

Their concept for Legio is that it is a Eurorack hardware platform that can load a wide variety of firmware, making it the foundation of a variety of module types. Anyone with any Legio module will be able to try any firmware for it, for free.

The Modules:

  • Virt Iter Legio is an oscillator that builds on the synthesis algorithms used for NE’s contribution to the Arturia MicroFreak and their software plugin Virt Vereor.
  • Librae Legio is a dynamics processor, featuring compression, expansion, limiting, noise gating, and two styles of gentle distortion.

“The Legio platform brings the power of a reprogrammable and multifunctional module down to a 6 HP size, perfect for any system,” says NE’s Markus Cancilla. “It’s an exciting development and we’re thrilled to be able to share it with the world!”

Virt Iter Legio

Virt Iter Legio is a stereo oscillator with a distinct and versatile sound. Its three modes – Bass, SawX, and Harm – will be familiar to users of Noise Engineering’s free Virt Vereor plugin or those who have the Arturia Microfreak, both of which are based on the same algorithms.

Virt Iter Legio features independent left and right phase-modulation inputs, a sync input, and a lush vintage-inspired chorus. This small oscillator puts unique sounds right at your fingertips and makes them easy to manipulate within the stereo field. Virt Iter Legio works well for beautiful pads, hard-hitting basses, and leads that can be simple or otherworldly.

Features:

  • 6 HP and US$279, available and in stock
  • 3 stereo oscillator algorithms: Bass, SawX, and Harm
  • Independent left and right phase-modulation inputs
  • Vintage-inspired chorus spreads sounds across the stereo field
  • Accurate pitch tracking from -2v to +5v using an automatic self-calibration process
  • Oscillator/DSP platform: change the firmware on your module to a different module on the Librae platform

Librae Legio

Librae Legio is a stereo dynamics processor, designed for the master bus with compression, limiting, expansion, and optional saturation.

Librae Legio was designed to work with any type of patch. It’s great for limiting, compression, and expansion. Noise Engineering says they created it to be able to be applied as transparently as possible, but also so that you can crank the settings to really squish your sounds for maximal crunch.

They added a saturation stage that you can engage, if you wish for some slight harmonic distortion: it adds a touch of color and some tape-like effects to louder elements. It’s also CV controllable and works great with mono or stereo signals.

Librae Legio also has a sidechain filter that the user can set to change the behavior of the dynamics processing.

Features:

  • 6 HP and US$279, available and in stock
  • Works in both mono and stereo
  • Incredibly clean compression, expansion, and limiting
  • Adjustable noise gate avoids unwanted noise when heavily processing sounds
  • Configurable sidechain filtering changes how the processing reacts to your sounds
  • Optional saturation adds flavor to your mix
  • Oscillator/DSP platform: change the firmware on your module to a different module on the Librae platform

The modules are available now, priced at $279.
