SUPERBOOTH 2022: Joranalogue Audio Design introduces New Modules

At Superbooth 2022, Belgian Eurorack company Joranalogue Audio Design has introduced Delay 1, a split-phase bucket brigade delay line, and Pivot 2, a voltage-controlled variable router.

Delay 1 is a fully analogue BBD-based delay module with a multitude of features geared towards modern musical use. An integrated temperature-compensated, high-frequency voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) provides the ‘clock’ signal necessary to drive the delay line within 1 to 50 ms.

By increasing the drive frequency to over 20 kHz, the classic ‘BBD clock whine’ problem is solved, while still providing a wide range in delay time. Classic chorus, flanger and echo effects are easily achieved using the dry/wet blend, feedback and damping parameters.

Delay 1 enables the user to experiment with Karplus-Strong synthesis, an exciting technique to create string and percussion type sounds. This is made easy by an integrated noise transient generator, driven by the ‘pluck’ input, and by the clock VCO’s 1 volt per octave response.

Delay 1 will be available November 2022. Find out more information on the Joranalogue website.

Pivot 2 is a compact, fully voltage controlled variable signal router that offers a unique solution. At the turn of a single knob, any signal can be routed through two external modules in series, parallel or reverse series, as well as any combination in between.

Experiment with patching wavefolders before, after or alongside filters, shuffle multiple delay lines, precisely dial in two-stage audio compression or easily control intricate feedback patches.

Looking beyond the basic signal routing application, Pivot 2 will also function as a complementary pair of counter-acting linear voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs), a voltage controlled crossfader or a voltage controlled panner.

Signal flow is an essential concept in modular synthesis: the path taken by audio or control voltages (CVs) may be long or short, branching or linear, intuitive or highly complex.

While the patch programmability of a modular system is its greatest strength, it can also be a weakness: quick experimentation is often hampered by the need to repatch the synthesiser to change the signal flow.

Pivot 2 is expected to begin shipping September 2022. Find out more information on the Joranalogue website.

In addition, Joranalogue also updates on the Step 8 sequential tracking/sampling register.

The company says that the Step 8 “received a lot of attention” at Superbooth 2022. But, “it quickly became clear that the design needed a bit more development time. We’ve since added some exciting improvements and are planning to commence production soon.”

Step 8 represents a new type of modular building block: a sequential tracking/sampling register, which can be configured to provide a variety of functions. These include sequencers, sequential switches, counters, analogue shift registers…

At its heart lies an analogue 1-to-8 signal switch feeding an octet of high-stability track/sample-and-hold stages. Each of these has its own analogue output with an attenuation slider, in addition to a gate output. LEDs visualise the status of each stage in real time. The switch can be controlled sequentially using the built-in 8-step counter, or addressed directly by an analogue control voltage (CV).

Step 8 Features:

  • Analogue 1-to-8 voltage tracking or high-speed sampling register.
  • Precision circuitry to process any signal, including pitch CV, accurately.
  • Cycling or shifting sequential control modes.
  • 8 high-performance ‘low droop’ hold circuits with solo function.
  • Integrated sequential counter with step, pause, reset and reverse inputs, and step button.
  • Step trigger output for easy tempo synchronisation of additional modules.
  • Stage input to directly address the register via control voltage.
  • Impedance-compensated individual stage analogue outputs with LED-equipped attenuation sliders.
  • Scanning output for sequencer, addressed voltage source or waveshaper use.
  • Individual stage gate outputs with LEDs.
  • ‘Bullet-proof’ design: polarized power header and MOSFET protection circuit.
  • Includes 16-to-10-pin Eurorack power ribbon cable.
  • Premium mounting hardware: black screws, black nylon washers and matching hex key.

Joranalogue Step 8 is marked “coming soon” on the company website. For additional information here.

SUPERBOOTH 2022: Qu-Bit Electronix introduces Aurora Spectral Reverb

At Superbooth 2022, Qu-Bit Electronix introduced Aurora, a spectral reverb capable of a wide palette of sounds: from lush caverns and whale songs, to ‘alien textures you’ve never created before’.

Aurora uses a phase vocoder audio engine, which separates the input signal’s time and pitch domains. By blurring these signals, you can achieve beautiful time-stretched tails, or cybernetic metallic effects.

Features:

  • Spectral reverb with true stereo audio IO
  • Phase vocoder audio engine running at 48kHz, 24-bit
  • Time stretched tails, icy shimmers, and voltage controlled whale songs
  • Front panel USB port provides easy firmware updates, user options, and more
  • Powered by the Daisy Audio Platform

The Aurora Spectral Reverb is available to pre-order for $359 .

SUPERBOOTH 2022: Moon Modular introduces New Moog Format Effects Modules

At Superbooth 2022, synthmaker Moon Modular displayed their Moog format modular line, showcased a new module in their Lunar Effects Suite, and introduced a new dual-VCA module.

The M 532 Voltage Controlled Phase Shifter is a phaser module, based on a classic phaser design. It is a fully analog design, featuring up to eight phasing stages. It features a built-in voltage controlled LFO, with triangle and rising sawtooth waveforms, for modulation. The LFO OUTPUT is normalized to the PHASER CV INPUT. Voltage control over phase shift, feedback and dry/wet mix is also available.

With FILTER MODE in the CLASSIC position, all phasing stages receive the same phase shift information. The SPREAD mode supplies them with different phase shift information.

In addition to the M 532 Voltage Controlled Phase Shifter, Moon’s effects modules include:

  • The M 530 Voltage Controlled Digital Delay – a high quality stereo delay, with many unique features; and
  • The M 531 Voltage Controlled Analog Delay –  an analog delay module, with two separate bucket brigade delay lines.

Lastly, Moon introduced the M502S Simple Dual Voltage Controlled Amplifier, a module that features two separate voltage controlled amplifier circuits, each with its own signal input and signal output, plus modulation input. The module has a continuous linear/exponential controller and switchable AC/DC mode (audio signals/control voltages). The module can act as two independent mono or one stereo VCA.

The Moon Modular M 532 Voltage Controlled Phase Shifter will be available starting in June 2022 for 419 (incl. the German VAT of 19%) or 352,10  export price.

The Moon Modular M502S will be available starting in June 2022 for 279 EUR (incl. the German VAT of 19%) or 234,45  export price.
