Tape It has introduced Denoiser, a fully automatic, studio quality noise reduction tool for audio.
Denoiser automatically removes background noise, such as hums and hisses, and can produce studio-quality results on voice, full songs, single instrument tracks, and field recordings.
Denoiser is the result of over two years of research on how to combine traditional signal processing with modern AI algorithms, to get the best of both worlds: the studio quality results from the former and the automation and ease of use of the latter.
Coinciding with the launch, the company has released an academic study with a comprehensive scientific listening test, which they say show that the software’s quality competes with industry-leading denoisers.
The developers say that they focused on three main areas:
Immediate results that would otherwise require expertise and complex software.
Accessibility by making it as simple as possible, with just one slider to set the strength of reduction.
Protecting the original sound by keeping instruments’ and vocals’ unique character, with no harsh processing.
Denoiser will be officially presented at the Audio Engineering Convention in New York from October 25th to 27th, and is available to use for free at the Tape It website.
This updated version of the original Frohmage – a classic freebie from 2001 – riffs on the idea that the Moon is made of cheese. None of that really matters, though – what we really need to know is that the “cult classic resonant filter” is back, but now with modulation options aplenty. These include an ADSR, envelope follower and ‘classic’ and ‘unique’ LFOs that can modulate each other. There are also macros for live performance and fast preset browsing.

It sounds like this could be the first of several plugin reboots from Ohm Force, and if it is anything like as good as Frohmage, Frohmager will be well worth downloading and it’s Free. Frohmager is available now for PC and Mac and runs in VST/AU/AAX formats.
We are long enough in the music technology tooth to remember when multisampled drum kit plugins such as BFD cost an arm and a leg, so we find it slightly amazing to be telling you that you can now have a version of the software for nothing. How times change.
Derived from the full version of BFD 3, this includes a 5.2GB of drum kits that were recorded in a professional setting. There are 340 MIDI grooves, too, all ready to be dragged into your DAW’s timeline. These are categorised by the likes of genre, tempo and leading hand, which should make finding the beats you’re looking for that little bit easier.
There’s also a built-in mixer – while beginners can simply load up one of the kit-specific presets, those who want more control over their sound can adjust it in a variety of ways. Various routing options, meanwhile, enable you to process your sounds with your existing plugins.
BFD Player can be downloaded for free and used without restriction, but if you want more kits, grooves and mix setups, you can get them via purchasing the dedicated expansion packs. Two of these – London 70s and Dark Mahogany – are already available, priced at $30/£30 each, and more are on the way.
BFD was originally developed by FXpansion, and the first version was released way back in 2003. The software was acquired by ROLI in 2016, and then sold to InMusic – its current owner – in 2020.
