Korg Modwave Native Now Available for Mac and Windows

The trend for official software versions of contemporary hardware synths is one we’re fully onboard with.

Korg has introduced modwave native, a fully-compatible software counterpart to its recently introduced modwave synthesizer keyboard. The Modwave has joined the Opsix and Wavestate as an option for your DAW.

Released in 2021, the Modwave is an all-digital synth that’s loosely based on Korg’s DW-8000, which is something of a cult classic. It offers wavetable oscillators, sumptuous filters, flexible modulation options, effects and hi-spec pattern sequencing.

Modwave Native is fully compatible with the hardware – sounds can be exchanged between the two – and also supports any third-party sound libraries that are designed for the original Modwave (or for the wavestate, for that matter).

Features:

  • modwave synthesis engine
  • Kaoss Physics
  • Motion Sequencing 2.0
  • Deeper access into the synth engine
  • ‘Filters for days’
  • Flexible modulation
  • Wide arsenal of effects
  • ‘Randomization that inspires’
  • Set Lists and Smooth Sound Transitions
  • Patch exchange between modwave and modwave native
  • Crossgrade from hardware modwave
  • Demo version available

Audio Demos:

Modwave native is available in VST3, AAX, and standalone formats, on both macOS and Windows, as well as AU on macOS. You can seamlessly exchange sounds between hardware and software.

Modwave native is available now for intro price of $149 (regular price $199) Special crossgrade pricing is also available for owners of the modwave keyboard. Find out more and download a demo on the Korg website.

Image-Line releases FL Studio 21 DAW

It’s been four-and-a-half years since the release of FL Studio 20, which celebrated the DAW’s double-decade anniversary. Now, it is finally time for FL Studio 21.

The headlining new feature is the integration of envelopes into audio clips – you can now adjust fade-ins/outs and levels in the Playlist on a per-clip basis. And, dragging one clip into another will automatically create a crossfade between them, leaving you to adjust the ‘tension’ until you are happy with it.

The look of FL Studio 21 can be adjusted with new themes, which themselves can be tweaked to your liking, while the upgraded file browser offers tagging, faster search and the option to preview a sample from any point on its waveform.

If you have the All Plugins edition of the FL Studio, you’ll also get the new Luxeverb reverb, while the Vintage Phaser plugin (available in the Signature Bundle and up) models a classic effect.

The new Multiband Delay, meanwhile, is included in every version of FL Studio 21 from the Producer Edition upwards, and everybody gets the VFX Sequencer, regardless of which edition they are rocking. This is an “advanced” step sequencer that can transform chords into melodic phrases.

Other enhancements include expanded multi-language support (Spanish, German and French join English and Chinese) and more.

FL Studio 21 is free for existing users as part of the Image-Line’s Lifetime Updates policy, and until the end of the year. There are discounts on both upgrades (to a better version) and for new customers. The popular Producer Edition is currently on sale for $149/£129.

Find out more and download a demo on the Image-Line website. FL Studio 21 is available for PC and Mac.

Donner DED-20 is a roll-up drum pad that fits in your backpack.

Any roadie solution will be solve with DED-20. The problem with drum kits is that they’re big, heavy and take time to set up and break down, which makes them less than ideal for taking with you and practising on when you are out and about. The DED-20 is made from a soft silicone that’s designed to keep noise to a minimum when you hit it with the supplied sticks, and it also ships with a power adapter (it’ll run from a power bank), a USB data cable, a 3.5mm audio cable and the aforementioned pedals. You also get 40 free drum lessons courtesy of Melodics.
