Digital Brain Instruments has released vPlayer 4, a major update to its 64-bit VST/AU host for Mac and Windows.
vPlayer 4 is designed to let you play live, using a variety of software synth plugins, without the overhead of using a DAW. vPlayer 4 essentially acts as a wrapper to turn any VST/AU into a standalone application.
It enables you play up to 8 VST/AU instruments at same time, using up to 4 different MIDI keyboards.
Features:
4 Plugin Slots: Each plugin slot allows using 1 instrument & 1 effect plugin. Each slot can be played using a different MIDI device simultaneously (4 MIDI keyboards) or using the same MIDI device.
Play up to 8 instrument plugins: Each effect plugin can be converted into an instrument plugin, allowing to play up to 8 instruments at same time.
External audio input available: Use a microphone, any music instrument or audio input from third-party software using virtual audio loopback drivers.
Built-in Audio Player: Play any file from your computer.
Built-In MIDI Player: Play up to 4 MIDI files simultaneously.
Parallel & Serial Processing Modes: Parallel mode allows playing 4 virtual instruments while audio output is processed through an effect plugin for each virtual instrument. Serial mode allows playing 1 virtual instrument while audio output is processed through 7 effect plugins. In audio source mode, serial processing mode allows processing your audio input through 8 VST/AU effect plugins.
Multitrack & Stereo Recording: Record each plugin slot audio output to individual audio files.
MIDI Recording: Export individual MIDI files for each plugin slot. Up to 4 MIDI files.
Master Rack: Up to 2 VST/AU plugins to process master output.
‘It smears out the sound like ketchup on a mayo sandwich’: move over, Sausage Fattener, because Dada Life is now serving its Secret Sauce bundle – Three easy-to-use plugins that are designed to give your music a hefty dash of sonic seasoning.
The Dada Life Secret Sauce bundle is a new EDM-friendly collection of 3 plug-ins with a reverb, a pitch riser effect, and a stereo widener.
Famed for their much-loved Sausage Fattener plugin, which also was licensed from developer Tailored Noise, Swedish duo Dada Life are now giving you access to their Secret Sauce. This takes the form of a three-plugin bundle that contains a reverb, a riser effect and a stereo widener.
The term secret sauce is often used to describe that almost intangible stardust that the best producers seem capable of sprinkling on their tracks, but Dada Life seem to think that they’ve managed to distil this into something practical and real. “They say you should never give away the secret ingredient,” they explain. “Well, we just did!”
The first cab off the Secret Sauce rank is Space-In-Your-Face, a reverb plugin that’s “just wider and better than the rest”. This is an enhanced version of the reverb that was included in Dada Life’s Endless Smile plugin, and can range in size from small to huge.
Eternal Return can take your risers and buildups higher (quite literally, by the sounds of it), while Wide Awake Rainbow is a stereo widener that “smears out the sound like ketchup on a mayo sandwich”.
Each plugin has just a couple of knobs, so it’s about tweaking to taste rather than calling up presets.
The Secret Sauce bundle runs on PC and Mac in VST/AU formats and is available now priced at $39. You can grab it now on the Dada Life website.
Developer Ryo Togawa has introduced VAPolyMkII, a virtual analog bitimbral polyphonic synthesizer for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
VAPolyMkII is a 16-voice synthesizer, with effects, sequencer and audio visualization tools. It operates standalone or as an AudioUnit Extension (AUv3). Stand Alone supports Ableton Link, MIDI and audio file export.
The synthesizer consists of two 8 voice synthesizer, which features two oscillators, two ADSR envelopes, resonant high pass and low pass filter and an amplifier per voice. The oscillators features continuously variable wave shape and wide variety of modulation. The filters are modeled on the Sallen-Key filter circuit and cascaded OTA filter circuit for classic analog sound.
The Effects include delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, eq and compressor. The sequencer features piano roll and parameter automation editor to program 16 bar pattern per clip. Project files can be saved in iCloud Drive, so that the project can be accessed from iPhone, iPad or Mac.
