KRK is launching a limited-edition version of its CLASSIC studio monitor designed in collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Scott Storch.

The shiny and gold KRK Scott Storch CLASSIC 8ss is limited to only 500 pairs

The KRK Scott Storch CLASSIC 8ss is spin on the CLASSIC 8, an active two-way studio monitor equipped with 8″ woofer and 1″ soft dome tweeter. The CLASSIC 8 delivers 100W of power in total – 75W for the woofer and 25W for the tweeter – and a dynamic, modern sound that’s punchy and bass-forward.

Storch’s signature monitors have been outfitted with a gold chrome faceplate and feature the producer’s signature on the front and back. The CLASSIC 8ss are said to capture Storch’s “eccentric, unique flair” and offer the same +2db KRK Bass Boost function as the regular CLASSIC model; flip this switch and they’ll amp up the low end for an enhanced bass response.

“For years, the KRK CLASSIC 8 monitors have been essential to my artistic music-making process,” says Storch in a statement. “To now have personalized versions of my favourite studio monitors is an exciting venture for me. I’m honoured that KRK chose me for its first-ever artist collaboration.”

Scott Storch is a producer and songwriter known for working with Grammy-winning artists. Storch has been nominated for four Grammy Awards.

Each monitor will cost $299. If you want a bit of gold chrome in your life, don’t wait around – only 500 pairs of the CLASSIC 8ss are being made. Find out more on KRK website.

Soundtoys is Donating 100% of Sales to Support Vermont Flood Relief August 2-3

Vermont-based Soundtoys has created a two-day “giving event” to aid victims of catastrophic flooding in their home state. Every dollar of Soundtoys purchases and upgrades on August 2 and 3 will be donated to local nonprofit organizations to provide immediate relief for Vermonters affected by widespread catastrophic rainfall and floods.

Extreme weather events in July 2023 have put entire towns under water, forced residents to evacuate from their homes, washed out roads and bridges, destroyed crops, and threatened dams.

Proceeds from sales made on August 2 will be directed to the Vermont Community Foundation’s Flood Response & Recovery Fund to help to cover immediate support as Vermont moves through this crisis. The Community Foundation is committed to getting money out the door and into the hands of those who need it most during this crisis stage as well as assistance for long-term recovery efforts to build back homes, infrastructure, and communities. Read more about how Vermont Community Foundation is making an impact.

Proceeds from sales made on August 3 will be directed to Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT). Farmers are imperative to the local food system, economy, and environment, and they do not always qualify for insurance coverage, or for federal and private assistance programs. NOFA-VT’s Farmer Emergency Fund provides farmers with the needed cash flow in times of an emergency, to help them recover and ultimately become more resilient farmers. Donations to this fund will be quickly mobilized to farms as they repair from the storm. Listen to NOFA-VT executive director Grace Oedel share how donations will support farmers and food systems.

If you don’t need anything at this time, but want to support the effort, you can get a Soundtoys gift card, or explore other ways to support Vermont flooding victims.

“We’re a small company with a passionate team and equally passionate customers, and we support causes that we believe in. Whether it’s the political climate or the weather, we are facing some incredible challenges – and this time it’s in our own backyard,” said Ken Bogdanowicz, founder and CEO of Soundtoys. “The devastation caused by the floods is widespread and heart-breakingly severe, which is why we chose to support organizations able to provide rapid response and relief to those who need it most.”

The 2-day event is part of Soundtoy’s commitment to philanthropy and activism. Over the years, the company has raised more than $720,000 for humanitarian and civil rights organizations, including support for Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders, World Central Kitchen, the Red Cross Society of Ukraine, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Legal Defense Fund, Team Rubicon, and the Gulf Restoration Network.

PSP BinAmp recreates the ‘warm and rich’ sound of the Binson Echorec 2’s Class A triode tube preamp

PSP’s BinAmp captures the legendary tone of Pink Floyd’s favourite delay in software

The Binson Echorec 2 is a legendary effects unit that helped to shape the sound of many influential recordings throughout the ’60s and ’70s.

But its most famous association has to be with Pink Floyd; this magnetic drum delay machine was a favourite of David Gilmour’s and a fixture in his ’70s rig.

The Echorec was revered not only for its abilities in the delay department, but also its overall tone, a warm and characterful sound produced by the unit’s Class A triode tube preamplifier.

It’s this very tone that PSP audioware has attempted to recreate in its latest plugin release, the PSP BinAmp. It’s a preamp plugin aimed specifically at capturing the sonic character of the Echorec’s preamp stage, an ‘unequaled tone’ beloved for its richness, saturation and analogue warmth.

BinAmp offers the user a variety of options for sound-tweaking, including controls for Character and Drive, a high-pass filter and high-frequency roll-off to shape the plugin’s frequencies, and a control for achieving the desired balance of saturation.

The Variation control enables you dial in subtle behavioural differences between multiple instances of the plugin, emulating the unpredictability of the analogue equipment the plugin’s inspired by. BinAmp looks the part, as well, and is equipped with a Magic Eye display for metering saturation and output levels.

PSP BinAmp is available now for Mac and Windows in VST/VST3/AAX/AU formats for an introductory price of $49, till August 14 (regular price $99).
