Northeast Electro-Music Festival NEEM Fest Coming September 8-10, 2023

The 2023 Northeast Electro-Music Festival (NEEM Fest) is scheduled to take place September 8-10, 2023 at the Center for the Arts of Homer in Homer, NY.

The event will feature over 30 electronic musicians and 4 visual artists, with three days of live performances and workshops.

NEEMFest began as electro-music 2005, a small conference covering all aspects of experimental electronic music with a focus on participant involvement, sharing, community development, education, and great music. Electro-music was sponsored by electro-music.com, a global online community of composers and musicians who share a passion for music made with synthesizers, home-made circuits, computers, found objects, voices, signal processors, wooden flutes, ambient recordings, and virtually anything imaginable that makes sound.

Known as the “Woodstock of electronic music,” the event has grown and continues to this day.

NEEM Fest features back-to-back performances by electronic musicians and visual artists throughout the day and evening, utilizing two alternating stages for uninterrupted entertainment. The event also includes educational workshops sharing the latest technology and techniques.

NEEM Fest will take place in partnership with electro-music.com and TE-MPO (The Electro-Music Performers Organization), a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of electro-music.

Tickets are $15 per day, $25 for two days, and $30 for a three days pass, and can be purchased online at electro-music.com, or at the door at the Center for the Arts of Homer, 72 South Main Street, Homer, NY.

More information, including a complete schedule of events and information may be found on the NEEM Fest website.

Flip Sampler Updates with New Projects, Samples + Looping Envelope

Flip Sampler, the sample-based music making app conceptualized by music producer and YouTuber Andrew Huang, has just been updated to version 1.4. The update adds new stock projects, over 100 new stock samples, and a much requested new feature, the Looping Envelope.

Located on the revamped Sample tab, engaging the Looping Envelope means any selected portion of a sample can be looped while it is playing. This enables for samples of notes or chords to be sustained indefinitely, as well as opening up a new world of sound design possibilities within Flip—from ambient/pad sounds, to granular glitching, to audio-rate looping which can turn any sample into a playable polyphonic synth voice. A “Fade” parameter crossfades the transitions between the loop points, if a smoother sound is desired.

Adding even more power, the loop’s start point, length, and crossfade amount can be automated from Flip’s Automation page. Like all of Flip’s automation lanes, each can have its own independent length, leading to fun and creative polymetric variations.

Now in its third year on iOS, Flip Sampler is also now available for Android. The 1.4 update adds Ableton Link support for Android devices (already present in the iOS version) making Flip Sampler one of only a few Android apps that provides support for this handy sync technology created by Ableton.

Flip is available for $9.99

A Love Song to the Noise Engineering Basimilus Iteritas Alter – R.I.P. BIA

Synthesist Justin Lin, aka Bilijie, shared this ‘love song’ to the Basimilus Iteritas Alter – one of the recently discontinued members of Noise Engineering ‘Iteritas’ line of Eurorack modules.

Noise Engineering’s Iteritas line was designed around a CPU that has been discontinued, forcing them to retire most of the modules in this line.

The Basimilus Iteritas Alter is a complex drum voice, featuring six oscillators and a noise source, with voltage control of every parameter.

“As a testament to its power, its versatility, and its simple strange beauty, I offer this humble tribute to one of the most iconic sounds in modular synthesis,” says Lin.
