Solid State Logic introduces new premium plugin, Vintage Drive and Stereo Image

Solid State Logic has introduces two new plugins modelled on its Fusion analogue hardware processor – Vintage Drive and Stereo Image – while also revealing a plugin development roadmap focused on “music creation, mixing and mastering”.

SSL is bringing the sound of its all-analogue hardware processor to your DAW.

Emulating the Fusion hardware section of the same name, and offering non-linear saturation circuit characteristics, Vintage Drive features Density and Drive controls that can be used to produce harmonics, soft clipping and compression. SSL says its effect calls to mind the one you get when you push an analogue console into its tonal sweet spot.

While, Stereo Image enables you to access a digital version of Fusion’s mid-side circuit for spatial manipulation of the stereo field. This can be done using the Width and Space controls.

SSL says that further pieces of the Fusion processing pie will be coming in due course – Violet EQ, HF Compressor and Transformer – and the company is also planning new tape echo, delay and de-esser plugins.

These will all be available as part of the SSL Complete Subscription Bundle, which costs $14.99 a month. Besides, there will also be monthly software releases, including “premium legacy modelled hardware additions,” adding even more value.

The new Fusion plugins cost $199/£139/€159 each (plus taxes), but are available at a 25% discount for the first 30 days of their launch (this pricing model will apply to all future Fusion releases, as well). They run on PC and Mac in VST/AU/AAX formats.

The Free plugin promises the fattest 808-style kicks you will find in a ROMpler

Recluse Audio ROMpler plugin gives you sixteen 808-style kicks in a straightforward interface. Promising both fatness and simplicity, the samples come from a completely different drum machine, though.

The samples are actually lifted from Dave Smith and Roger Linn’s Tempest drum machine, but they certainly call to mind the sound of Roland’s classic beatbox. Editing is restricted to an ADSR envelope, but if you do not like the included sounds, you can drag and drop your own AIFF, WAV and MP3 files.

You can download ROMpler for free on the Recluse Audio website.

Superbooth 2022 Dates Set, Along With New SooperGrail Festival

An annual trade show and festival for electronic musicians

Organizers of Superbooth have announced that Superbooth 2022 will be held May 12-14 at the FEZ in Berlin, Germany.

This year,  Superbooth 2021 was a scaled down edition because of pandemic realities, but the organizers tried to evolve the event to adapt to challenging conditions, making use of the grounds of the FEZ to set up outdoor tents and booths, decentralizing the event and allowing for increased social distancing.

They note:

“We tried to introduce a new concept of a trade fair combined with festival, which is more relaxed and spacious with all of its benefits and with strong focus on the quality of the experiences and encounters.

It was a very special edition this time, which was expected after this long break of more than 2 years, but probably the situation connected us even closer?!”

In addition to announcing dates for Superbooth 2022, organizers also announced that the inaugural SooperGrail, a new guitar-focused festival, will be held May 6-8, 2022, the week before Superbooth.
