GPU Audio brings GPU-Accelerated Audio Processing to Mac

GPU Audio has announced Apple Mac support for its GPU-accelerated audio processing platform:

“By far the biggest request we’ve had this year is for Apple support, and we’re pleased to announce that the day has arrived!

MacOS users now have access to the FIR Convolution Reverb, demonstrating one of the most processor-intensive plugin effects out there. The FIR Convolver is the perfect audio tool to try out GPU Audio’s unique processing technology – and best of all, it’s FREE!”

GPU Audio is a new technology company that says that they have created the world’s first novel GPU-based, full technology stack for audio processing.

They say that this release paves the way for the next generation of pro audio plugins on Apple M1 and M2 devices, with all of the benefits that brings, including Live Machine Learning and A.I. processing.

Features of GPU Audio:

  • Low-latency VST3 performance regardless of channel-count
  • Real-Time (instant) Audio processing
  • Performance gains for AI and ML algorithmic use cases
  • DSP power that is orders of magnitude greater than CPU

FIR Convolution Reverb is available now as a free download for Macs with an M1 or M2 processor.

GPU Audio Major, the first synth plugin to be powered by your graphics card

We already knew that GPU Audio’s graphics card processing technology could be used to power effects, and now the company has revealed that it is working on a GPU-fuelled synth plugin known as Major.

Announced during a recent Pro Synth Network Show, Major is an eight-layer instrument that is described as a cross between existing synth plugins Sylenth1 and Rapture. It gives you eight oscillators, a sub oscillator and eight samplers per layer, so the sound design potential is seemingly vast.

All layers can be mixed down to stereo, additionally, you have the option of sending each one to its own channel meaning that Major can be used as a ‘spatial’ synth, with sounds mixed all around you. Other highlights include FM oscillators, arpeggiators, effects and randomisation options.

Major is very much a work in progress at this stage, but GPU Audio says that it hopes to have something for its users to try by the end of the year. You can already beta test the company’s Modulation effects bundle, though; as things stand, this runs on Windows machines with NVIDIA GPUs only, but AMD support is coming soon, and GPU Audio says that it is working closely with Apple and hopes to roll out macOS support in November.

If you want to be among the first to get access to Major, download the ‘beta suite’ Modulation bundle plugins and start submitting bug reports to help the developers with refinements. Find out more on the GPU Audio website.

GPU Audio Modulation Bundle Now available as a Beta Release, with Mac Support Coming in November

GPU Audio – a startup has announced a free beta version of its Modulation Bundle – featuring a Chorus, a Flanger and a Phaser.

Chorus, flanger and phaser effects with a difference…

The launch of a new collection of chorus, flanger and phaser plugins might not sound like too much to get excited about, but GPU Audio’s Modulation Bundle is a little different in that all the effects are powered by your computer’s graphics card.

The company’s GPU-powered platform was launched at this year’s NAMM Show,  with the first evidence of its capabilities being an early-access convolution reverb. The Modulation Bundle is the next step; the first in a new ‘beta-suite’ of plugins, it uses GPU Audio’s patented technology to harness the parallel processing power of your computer’s graphics and gaming system, taking the pressure and workloads off your CPU.

The Modulation Bundle is available initially for Windows machines with NVIDIA GPUs only, but AMD support and AAX formats coming soon. GPU Audio says that it’s working closely with Apple and that it hopes to roll out macOS support in November.

Looking ahead, the plan is to incrementally update the Modulation Bundle with new features, and spatial, frequency correction, distortion and dynamics plugins are on the way. GPU Audio will also be releasing an SDK for third-party developers, and claims to have “multiple contracts” signed. The first third-party plugin is expected to be released in conjunction with spatial audio specialist Mach1.

The free beta version of the Modulation Bundle can be downloaded now from the GPU Audio website.
