A free plugin is on the way. Waves is teasing a free plugin but, How do we know is coming this Black Friday?
Black Friday is just a few weeks away, and that can mean only one thing. Well, it can mean lots of things, but one thing it definitely means is that, as has been the case every recent cyber weekend, Waves has a free plugin on the way. But, Waves isn’t giving us any clues.
Previous Black Friday plugin freebies have been worth having, though: last year’s Lofi Space married saturated delay and two varieties of analogue-based and spring reverb, while 2020’s CLA EchoSphere, which was designed in collaboration with master mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge, combined his favourite slap delay and plate reverb.

Dirty LA is a free compressor plugin that channels the LA-2A and other vintage limiting amps. Bedroom Producers Blog promises a free and easy route to musical compression with a touch of grit.
Bedroom Producers Blog is back on the free plugin trail with the release of BPB Dirty LA, a VST/AU compressor that’s based on vintage limiting amps such as the LA-2A.
Dirty LA features – musical-sounding compression, a streamlined workflow and a simple user interface. There’s also a Dirt algorithm to provide saturation with gentle transient reduction.
By default, Dirty LA gives you a relatively fast attack time and moderate compression ratio, but if you engage the limiting mode you can get a faster attack time and a higher compression ratio. You can also use the plugin to provide ‘mix glue’ on the master bus.
When Dirt mode is engaged, Dirty LA uses 4X internal oversampling, but this is bypassed when Dirt is switched off to reduce CPU usage.

This Mellotron-inspired lofi effect is a vintage tape-emulation and lofi effect based on the sound and behaviour of the classic Mellotron (and, in turn Arturia Mellotron V emulation). Parameter knobs enable you to adjust the amount of Noise, Flutter, Wow, Wear and ‘Mechanics’, and also enable you dial in subtle distortion and saturation.
This leaves you with an effect that promises to apply lo-fi vibes to anything you stick it on – drum loops, vocals or even your entire mix.
A 25-preset library, gives you plenty of retro starting points.
Other features include an interactive tape wheel with tempo-synced Tape Stop feature and optional Instant Tape Catch-up, a 12dB low-pass and high-pass filter section, and a Stereo Width feature that introduces offsets to Wow and Flutter from left to right for an extra-wide sound.
