Unusable Engineering Introduces Science-Driven Audio Plugin Series
Unusable Engineering has launched a set of audio plugins for macOS, that they say are built around physical and scientific modeling concepts, rather than conventional DSP categories.
The company describes its approach as focusing on systems where the underlying model directly influences both sound and control behavior.
The current lineup includes a set of individual instruments and effects, along with bundled collections organized by theme. These products cover synthesis, modulation, filtering, dynamics, spatial processing, distortion, and degradation-style effects.

The lineup includes:
- Synthesizer:
- Curves & Membranes: Monophonic synthesizer using Bézier-based waveform shaping, orbital modulation concepts, and a membrane-style filter model
- Effects:
- Spectral Pressure Chamber: Multiband dynamics processor based on spectral pressure modeling concepts
- Cavitation Fractures: Distortion processor based on fluid-dynamics-inspired behavior
- Frequency Guillotine: Multi-band spectral slicing and gating effect
- Ensemble Diffuser: Modulation effect combining ensemble-style movement and phasing behavior
- Harmonic Dissector: Dual filter system for parallel stereo filtering and harmonic shaping
- Tension Reactor: Spring-style reverb modeled with reactive behavior characteristics
- Entropy Encoder: Digital degradation effect simulating codec loss, jitter, and signal corruption
- Bundles:
- Emulated Effects Pack: Collection of five effects focused on modulation, filtering, spatial processing, and digital degradation
- Scientist Suite: Bundle including Curves & Membranes, Spectral Pressure Chamber, and Cavitation Fractures
- Full Suite: Complete collection of available synthesizer and effects plugins
The plugins range in price from €29.00 to €89.00. Visit the Unusable Engineering site for details.
