In this video, from the Sonic State coverage of SynthFest UK 2023, Tony Wride from Exclusively Analogue discusses their Pioneer Tribute modular system, a modern take the classic E-mu modular synthesizer.
The Pioneer Tribute modules are redesigned E-mu modules that, while matching the look and feel of the original, use updated circuit designs. Wride says that the updated modules have been made with the approval and input of E-mu founder Dave Rossum. For example, some of the original designs used parts that are now unobtanium, so the modules have been updated using Rossum’s own integrated circuit designs.
The modules are physically and electrically compatible with the originals, so they can be used to complete or expand an existing system, or as part of a new system.
Wride notes that the new modules would not exist, if not for his luck in getting a rare vintage E-mu system from an unusual source, as he explains in the video.
Details on the Pioneer Tribute modules are available on the Exclusively Analogue website.
Synthetic Sound Labs has introduced the Soleil POD, a tiny Lo-Fi MIDI string synth.
Features:
4-voice paraphonic, with 2 oscillator ranks per note.
Waveforms are continuously variable from thick sawtooth thru variable pulse widths. The second rank is detunable for “lush pads and honky-tonk riffs”.
Built-in modulation / vibrato LFO, the depth of which can be controlled by MIDI.
Attack and release envelope times are individually adjustable and share a single VCA, making this a “paraphonic” instrument.
A gate output jack allows triggering of external effects and synth equipment, and its state is displayed by an LED.
MIDI is input via a 3.5mm TRS Type “A” jack, and responds to keyboard running status as well as pitch bend and modulation. An LED MIDI displays MIDI activity.
A fine tune control allows accurate tuning to other instruments, and an output volume control is provided. MIDI, Gate Out and Audio Out are standard 3.5mm (1/8”) jacks.
Sugar Bytes has introduced Effectrix2, a major update to its step–based multi–effects sequencer for macOS and Windows.
Effectrix2 features 14 effects, from classic time-stretching and looping to granular synthesis and “glitchy madness”. Each effect has a modulation sequencer, offering a wide range of modulators which can be applied per step.
Features:
32-step effect sequencer with swing and dynamic length
