Akai Pro Introduces MPC Live III Retro


Akai Pro has introduced the MPC Live III Retro Edition, a standalone music production workstation offering expanded processing power, expressive pad control, integrated sequencing, sampling, and portable battery-powered operation in a retro-styled enclosure.

The MPC Live III Retro Edition is a standalone hardware production system built around Akai’s MPC3 platform, combining sequencing, sampling, synthesis, audio recording, and performance tools in a portable format.

The system uses an 8-core processing architecture with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage, supporting up to 32 plugin instrument tracks, 16 stereo audio tracks, and 256 stereo voices.

Make Your Own Disintegration Loops With The Music Thing Modular Workshop System


This video, via Bay Mud, explores the idea of creating ‘disintegrating loops’ using the Degenerator program card for the Music Thing Modular Workshop System.

The Workshop System is a small, self-contained Eurorack modular system. It includes a Computer module that is a multi-function module that can perform a variety of functions loaded from cards.

Degenerator turns the Workshop System’s Computer module into a self-overwriting audio looper, capable of everything from slow ambient decay to saturated noise and collapse.

The approach explored in this video is inspired by the tape loop degradation techniques used by William Basinski in creating his classic ambient piece, The Disintegration Loops.

Lambda Synthetics Wavetable Designer Overview


Lambda Synthetics shared this overview of Wavetable Designer – a browser-based tool for creating custom wavetables.

Wavetable Designer lets you create wavetables using a chain of generators. Sources add a new waveform and effects modify the signals created by previous generators.

To quickly create sonic changes in a wavetable for each parameter, a value can be set for the first and last wavetable: all cycles in between are then generated automatically.

A built-in audio preview lets you test your custom wavetable. Then you can export it for use in a variety of wavetable synthesizers.

Wavetable Designer is free to try, but you need a €15 license to enable exporting.
