Think Like A Synth Course Summary:

“Think Like a Synth represents more than just a collection of synthesizer lessons—it’s my way of passing down the knowledge I’ve gathered over decades of creating signature sounds for some of the biggest records, films, and ads in history.

When I started out, I was incredibly fortunate to have mentors like Quincy Jones, Giorgio Moroder, Jack Nietzsche, Arthur B. Rubenstein, and my gifted synth teacher Clark Spangler. Learning directly from all of them—at the outset of my career— helped shape me into the artist I am today. They shared everything they knew, and now, I feel compelled to do the same for all of you about synthesizers.

My goal is to distill everything I’ve learned—every technique, tip and insight—into an affordable, fun, hands-on synth course that anyone can immediately apply to their music. As you progress, you’ll develop the unwavering confidence to know what every knob does before you turn it, empowering you to create any sound in your imagination and set your music apart!”

Think Like a Synth is available now to pre-order, and will be available Dec 21st, 2024. The pre-order price is $290, 35% off the regular price of $449.

ALM MCO mkII Offers Wide Range Of Digital Voice Options, 4-Voice Polyphony

ALM has introduced the MCO (mk II), a versatile digital VCO and voice module inspired by 90s/00s digital synths.

The MCO offers a broad collection of synth voices, each with extensive, customizable parameters. These parameters can be directly controlled or modulated through assignable internal and external sources. Certain per-voice parameters support audio-rate modulation, including FM, sync, and DSP.

Each voice also supports up to four-voice chords, external-triggered envelopes, multiple LFOs, and dual audio outputs.

Voices include a multi dimensional wavetable oscillator based on the original MCO, a complex additive synthesis engine, a multi mode ’JP’ type digi-synth with super saws and more, a fully featured vocoder, a lush virtual analog implementation, a bass synth for both kicks and sub sonic tones and a port of ALM’s SID GUTs chip voice.

ALM MCO mkII Video Demos:

Features:

  • Wide collection of synth voices, each with numerous parameters.
  • All synthesis voices support up to 4 voice chord and dual outputs.
  • Built-in Envelopes and LFOs for modulation and voice behaviour.
  • Factory and user-saveable presets per synthesis voice.
  • Graphically rich color and easy to use UI.
  • All settings remain between power cycles.
  • 4 freely assignable CV inputs.
  • Audio rate input for FM, Sync and more.
  • Support for Axon expanders for up to 8 assignable CV inputs.
  • USB-C for quick and easy ‘drag and drop’ firmware updates, custom wavetable upload and device backup/restore.
  • Also available as a VCV software module.
  • Skiff-friendly with reverse power protection.
  • 2 Year Warranty.

The ALM MCO mkII is now available, priced at $289.

Joranalogue Cycle 5 Vari-Wave Oscillator Module Now Available

Joranalogue has announced that the Cycle 5 Eurorack module is now available.

The Cycle 5 is based around a high-stability triangle core voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), with performance that they say rivals or surpasses larger and more expensive oscillator modules.

Cycle 5’s highlight, though, is its vari-wave feature. By adjusting the vari-wave knob, the waveform on the matching output will smoothly morph from sine, to triangle, saw, square and finally a very narrow pulse. The vari-wave parameter can also be CV controlled, up to audio frequencies for some “intense” timbres.

Official Overview Video by DivKid:

Features:

  • High-stability precision analogue triangle-core VC(LF)O.
  • Octave and perfect fifth switches—all intermediate frequencies can be reached using the front panel controls.
  • Dual volt per octave FM inputs.
  • Outputs: sine, triangle, saw, square/pulse (PWM) and vari-wave, smoothly morphing between all waveforms.
  • Reset (hard oscillator sync) input.
  • Wide frequency range: 48 mHz (20 seconds) to 3.7 kHz.
  • Pre-tuned for 0 V = C.
  • Impedance-compensated outputs with dual-colour vari-wave LED.
  • Trim potentiometers accessible from the front panel.
  • Precision-milled 2 mm anodised aluminum front panel with high-resolution, non-erasable graphics.
  • Bullet-proof design: polarized power header and MOSFET protection circuit.
  • Includes 16-to-10-pin Eurorack power ribbon cable.
  • Premium mounting hardware: black screws, black nylon washers and matching hex key.
  • High-quality components and assembly.

The Joranalogue Cycle 5 Vari-Wave Oscillator is available now for $215.
