JBL releases new PRX900 Portable PA Systems

JBL promises professional performance from its new PRX900 portable PA systems.

JBL is taking its PA to the next level offering with the release of the PRX900 Series of loudspeakers and subwoofers. Designed for bands, DJs, venues and more, these promise advanced acoustics, comprehensive DSP, plenty of power and wireless Bluetooth control via the JBL Pro Connect app.

The range includes three powered two-way loudspeakers and two powered subwoofers, with all-new proprietary driver systems said to deliver clarity and definition even when you crank the volume.

The DSP can be accessed via the onboard LCDs or the JBL Connect and includes a 12-band parametric EQ and integrated dbx Drive Rack technology. This provides live and fixed Automatic Feedback Suppression, a soft system limiter with Soundcraft Overeasy option, and speaker delay settings and presets.

The PRX900 Series is completely scalable, with the Pro Connect app enabling you to control up to 10 speakers. You can also integrate with the BL EON ONE MK2, PRX ONE, and EON700 systems.

In addition, you do not have to worry about durability – there are rigid composite loudspeaker cabinets and the subwoofers are housed in 18mm birch cabinets with optimised bracing. The PRX900 also has the advantage of being backed by an out-of-the-box seven-year warranty.

“For years, our PRX800 Series loudspeakers have been first-call systems for bands, DJs, installers and houses of worship in large part thanks to their acoustic profile, their low-end extension, and their volume,” said Brandon Knudsen, HARMAN Professional Product Manager, Portable PA Loudspeakers.

“With the PRX900 Series, we’re taking things to the next level with next-gen acoustic innovations and an even brawnier power package to deliver clean, clear sound at any volume. Systems take advantage of the latest BLE technology and the JBL Pro Connect app ecosystem, for unrivalled control.”

MOTU releases M6 USB-C Audio Interface

MOTU expands the M series with M6 USB-C audio interface, joining the entry-level M2 and M4.

MOTU has announced the release of the M6, a new USB-C bus-powered audio interface for Mac, Windows and iOS.

M6 bolsters an M Series lineup that includes the M2 and M4, the manufacturer’s debut entry-level interfaces. In terms of I/O, the M6 is equipped with four mic/line guitar inputs with individual preamp gain, along with two additional 1/4-inch analogue inputs.

All inputs can be directly monitored, and the M6 has four 1/4-inch balanced analogue outputs, two headphone outputs with independent volume, and MIDI I/O. The interface is also equipped with “loopback” driver channels for capturing audio from your computer, a highly useful feature for podcasters and live-streamers, or those looking to quickly sample audio from a web browser or streaming service.

M6 use 192kHz/24-bit ESS Sabre32 Ultra™ converters as M2 and M4 (and some more expensive MOTU gear) and delivers 120dB of dynamic range from its main outputs. The interface also benefits from full-colour LCD level meters for all ins and outs, and is equipped with an A/B monitor switch for comparing mix output on two different sets of studio monitors, a feature not found on many entry-level interfaces in this price range.

The M6 comes bundled with Ableton Live Lite 11 and MOTU Performer Lite, making it easy to get started recording straight away. M6 is available now for $399.95

Audialab Emergent Drums Use Artificial Intelligence to generates Original Drum Sounds

Audialab has introduced Emergent Drums, a plugin that uses artificial intelligence to generate endless royalty-free drum samples.

They say that their AI is trained on drums from throughout history, so it generates new drum sounds with the characteristics of recorded drum sounds, but each drum sample generated is original.

What they say about Emergent Drums:

“Our AI model is trained on a large database of drum/percussion samples and can now generate a practically infinite number of unique drum samples from scratch. From the Emergent Drums interface, select the type of drum sample you want to generate (eg, snare or kick) and the AI will create a completely new, random sample of that type.

If you find a sample that’s almost right, you can generate similar samples using the power of our generative deep learning AI models. You can then sculpt the sample further with envelopes, pitching, panning, and clipping to make something perfectly suited to your sample design needs.

Emergent Drums can generate kicks, snares, claps, closed hi-hats, open hi-hats, cymbals, other percussion – even noise and glitches.”

Audialab website does not provide a lot of detail on the technology or the capabilities of Emergent Drums, but they have shared this brief demo with Laze the Producer:

Emergent Drums is available for $149.99 but, their website does not offer a demo version or even much in the way of audio demos or documentation to help you understand the plugin’s range of capabilities. Based on their FAQ, they are working on it:

“There is not currently a trial version of Emergent Drums which we know is stupid, but we’re working on it. The closest thing we have to a trial is our 30-day money-back guarantee, which again, we know is stupid, but we’re working on it.”
