sonicLAB Fundamental 4 Combines Old-School Synthesis Tools With AI Patching Capabilities

sonicLAB has introduced Fundamental 4, a major update to its sound synthesis application based on early electronic music tools.

According to the developer, “Fundamental feels like something Stockhausen, Xenakis and HAL 9000 might have dreamt up after a bender; recalling the past of electronic music through a dynamic modern interpretation of massive German vacuum oscillator.”

The update pairs old-school sound design features with artificial intelligence capabilities.

Here’s a preview of how this work:

Another example, demonstrating how a prompt can be used to create a patch based on the iconic TXH sound logo:

New in Fundamental 4

  • A built-in AI Large Language Model interface with token based Pay-as-you-go system. No subscriptions.
  • Prompt the AI with direct, emergent or abstact definitions and the generative AI will apply its interpretation to the Fundamental synthesis engine.
  • You can save the AI prompt and its interpretation along with presets.
  • Improvements made on the user interface, easier manual frequency assignment and added graphical components.
  • Fundamental 4 will work with a Fundamental 3 license.

Fundamental 4 is available now for Mac/Windows, priced at $137. The AI tokens are available as pay as you go, and cost $4 for around 150 – 200 AI prompt requests.

Synthesis Technology Cloud Terrarium & Quad Morphing VCO In VCV Rack

Synthesist and VCV Rack guru Omri Cohen shared this overview of the Synthesis Technology Cloud Terrarium & Quad Morphing VCO modules in VCV Rack.

The two modules are some of the most powerful VCOs available in Eurorack. Unfortunately, they went out of production a few years ago, and Synthesis Technology ceased trading with the death of founder Paul Schreiber, earlier this year.

The Cloud Terrarium features cloud oscillator features of the SynthTech’s earlier E340 Cloud Generator, plus wavetable features of their E350 Morphing Terrarium oscillator.

The Quad Morphing VCO builds on this, offering four independent morphing VCOs.

Both modules are available now in VCV Rack as a bundle for $30.

Skorpion Waveform Reanimator Available To Pre-Order

At Knobcon 2025, WMD introduced Skorpion, a new 8-stage vector wavefolder module.

WMD says that, after five years development, the “Skorpion is ready to decimate and reanimate whatever you throw at it.”

Skorpion is an 8-stage analog wavefolder that allows you to precisely mangle simple waveforms into complex shapes with a hands-on fader interface. Taking the concept many steps further, internal modulation sources allow for macro animation of multiple parameters simultaneously, creating rich, evolving harmonic movement never heard before in hardware.

Skorpion-Melodic content demo:

WMD says that, due to the current difficulty in projecting the future with parts sourcing, tariffs, etc, Skorpion will be produced in one very limited run, based on demand seen in preorders.

It is expected to ship in November, however, this may be delayed depending on the state of tariffs and parts procurement. It’s available to pre-order now, priced at $999, and they say that “Pre-Orders are price locked and will not be affected by ever changing politics.”

WMD also let us know that their Performance Mixer mkII is back in stock.

The Performance Mixer mkII is an 8-channel stereo mixer in Eurorack format, with major upgrades from original.

It features replaceable channel strips, crossfader/pan per channel, dual AUX sends, stereo cue bus, and group recall functions. Improved noise performance with 8-layer PCB design. Modular expansion supports up to 24 channels with PM Channels MKII units. And it includes balanced outputs, master insert loop, and headphone monitoring.

The Performance Mixer mkII is available now for $1,499.
