The Arithmophone is a free microtonal software instrument and MIDI controller for touchscreen devices.
It’s a browser-based music application, so you can play it with devices like an iPad or touchscreen PC.
Here’s what developer Chiel Zwinkels shared about the technical detail of the video:
“I used the MPE midi version of the Arithmophone. The sounds come from the Chipsynth PortaFM software synthesizer by Plogue (https://www.plogue.com/), which is running in the background on the tablet I’m playing.”
4ms has introduced a major update to MetaModule, a Eurorack module that provides a physical interface to virtual software modules.
Here’s a video overview of what’s new in MetaModule firmware 2.0.
The MetaModule comes with hundreds of built-in modules from 4ms Company, Befaco, HetrickCV, NonlinearCircuits, and Scanner Darkly, plus clones of popular classics such as the Mutable Instruments eurorack modules, fun physical modeling algorithms, and utilities, with the ability to add hundreds more via plugins.
See the MetaModule site for details or to update.
Numerical Audio has introduced Agonizer for macOS, a monophonic lead and bass synth, originally released for iOS.
Designed in collaboration Jakob Haq (haQ attaQ), Agonizer is described as “a mean bass machine, focused on delivering deep, dirty and wobbly bass and lead sounds.”
The synth engine features a pair of wavetable oscillators with 40+ wavetables, morphing capabilities, and cross modulation. The dedicated “Mangle” section includes pre-filter drive, bit crush, lift, and push controls for extensive sound sculpting before the virtual analog ladder filter shapes the final tone.
At the heart of Agonizer’s dynamic sound capabilities is the “Wobulator” – a sequenced modulator specifically designed for creating rhythmic modulations and evolving bass patterns. Additionally, Agonizer includes a key and tempo sync-able LFO as well as a standard ADSR and one variable slope AD envelope.
The modulation system allows you to modulate almost any parameter with up to 12 sources. A dedicated mod matrix provides an overview of all active modulations, while the “X-Ray mode” shows real-time display of modulations at their corresponding UI controls.
Agonizer supports MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) controllers in single channel mode, compatible with devices like ROLI Seaboard, Linnstrument, Haaken Continuum, and Expressive E Osmose.
