AudioThing & Hainbach’s Arguments Vintage-Style Test Equipment Plugin

AudioThing & Hainbach have introduced Arguments, a vintage-style test equipment plugin for tone generation and dual audio processing.

Arguments takes two signals and combines them, using math derived from analog nuclear research processors. Since each part of Arguments can run independently, it also works as a sonically rich test tone generator, as a complex distortion unit, or as a multimode filter.

“Its core idea comes from multiplication modules in the Nuclear Instrumentation format NIM BIN,” explains Hainbach. “I have used these for a long to time turn simple signals into heavy beats and basses. With Arguments, you can combine any two signals and lock them in a dance for headroom. Or you can use the integrated tone generator for lush 1960s sounding waveforms and pseudo-random noise. Or do both at same time. Arguments is meant to inspire you in your search for the sounds in between.”

The official Arguments intro video:

Arguments is available for Linux, macOS and Windows with an intro price of $39 (normally $69). It’s also available, as AUv3 and Standalone, in the App Store for iOS and iPadOS for $12.99.

Buchla & Tiptop Audio Frequency Shifter Model 285t Now Available

Tiptop Audio & Buchla USA have released the Frequency Shifter Model 285t, a Eurorack format reissue of the original 200 series module from 1971.

The Model 285t combines two functions in one module, frequency shifting and ring modulation. It’s the latest in Tiptop Audio’s Euro format reissues of classic Buchla 200 Series modules.

Here’s what they have to say about the 285t:

“The theory of shifting frequencies using analog multipliers was first invented in the early 1900s. However, in 1971, Don Buchla took this concept and explored how it could interact with the audio signals of his modular synthesizer.

By combining it with a balanced modulator into a single module, he likely created one of the world’s first analog audio effect processor modules.”
