Organizers of Roma Modulare 2024, an Italian event dedicated to synthesizers and professional audio production, let us know that the two-day event will be held at Forte Trionfale in Rome on September 27-28, 2024.
Roma Modulare 2024 will feature 80+ exhibitors, including Doepfer, Erica Synths, Instruo, TipTop Audio, Verbos Electronics, WMD and many others. The two-day international expo will be held in Rome’s Trionfale district within Forte Trionfale, one of 15 forts surrounding the eternal city.
Part of the venue will be dedicated to creating a Workshop Area, where, over two days, 20 speakers will take turns in presenting new products or exploring topics relating to the entertainment industry. A Live Area will be opened up in the garden outside the venue between 1:00 pm to 11.30 pm each day, where electronic music artists will effectively play a non-stop live performance with their modular synthesizers.
Tickets to Roma Modulare 2024 are available to purchase as a two-day pass — priced at €22.00 — or as one-day tickets for either September 27 or September 28 entry — each priced at €13.50.
Synthetic Sound Labs has introduced the Hypster Chaos Generator, the latest addition to their extensive line of MU format synth modules.
The Hypster produces signal waveforms, varying from simple periodic to complicated multiperiodic to extremely dense and complex, both in the low frequency control range as well as up into audio frequencies.
The Hypster features Rate, Gain, Damp inputs with external CV input attenuators, 8 “chaos” outputs, and a dual trace LCD Lissajous display. All inputs and outputs are standard ¼” phone jacks.
With an eight-signal output, it can simultaneously control multiple synthesizer parameters or generate several audio waveforms.
SSL says that the Hypster was designed in collaboration with the “Chief Chaos Crafter and Elite Entropy Engineer” himself, Ian Fritz.
Here’s what SSL shared for the Hypster’s features:
Unruly Squiggles: Square waves? Sinusoidal? The Hypster generates signals that even it doesn’t fully understand. Good luck figuring them out.
Whacky Waveforms: Comes with its own limited 2 channel Lissajous oscilloscope that will have your eyes crossed and your head spinning. Touch screen control of trace length & thickness.
Random Frequency Hopping: Is it 1Hz? Is it 10KHz? Who knows? The Hypster can help you slog through your synth frequencies like a snail on acid, or skip like a caffeinated rabbit on a pogo stick.
Amplitude Anarchy: Say goodbye to predictable voltage. Every signal is a surprise—a rollercoaster ride of peaks and troughs that’ll keep you on your toes.
Pseudorandom Personality: Switch between “Mild” or “Wild”, and “Curly” or “Squirrelly”. Turn up the “Rate”, “Gain” and “Damp” controls, and you’ll summon a signal so erratic, it might start communicating with the cosmos (no promises on what it’ll say).
Here’s a couple of examples of the Hypster in action:
Audio Blast shared this preview of ABx-3, a new 303-style virtual instrument that they describe as “the new generation of acid sound design”.
ABx-3 is available now for Linux, Mac & Windows.
While ABx-3 is inspired by the classic Roland TB-303 baseline synthesizer, its capabilities go way beyond the original, adding parameter sequencing, 32 oscillator shapes, 8 distortion units, effects and more.
Features:
Live Creation and Recording: Create and record note and parameter sequences on the fly.
606 Presets.
32 Independent patterns: which allows you to embed 32 different presets with independent parameters modulations (crazy)
32 Oscillator shapes
8 Distortion Units: Overdrive, Clip Inferno, Hot Valve, Ultracrunch, Turbo Fuzz, RageClip, Brutal Bill and the new Bit Crusher for added grit.
3 FX Slots with 7 Effects Available: Reverb, EchoVerb, SynthVerb, Stereo Chorus, Mono Chorus, 4Band-Fuzz and Flanger
Patch Randomizer: Assignable random button and real-time randomization of accents, slides, notes, octaves, steps, Scale and more.
5 Enhanced UI: Resizable (4 sizes: 75%, 100%, 150%, 200%) with 5 distinctive GUIs for a modern and personalized look.
Audio Blast ABx-3 is available now with an intro price of €89 (normally €179).
