Free Virtual Analog Synth for macOS, Atlas

Discrete Laboratories has introduced Atlas, a free software synthesizer for macOS that they say is “inspired by the iconic synthesizers of the 1970s”.

Atlas features 8-voice polyphony, with each voice featuring 3 oscillators, noise generator, 2 ADSR envelopes, a 12dB/oct LPF and dedicated LFO.

Beatmaking on Rossum SP-1200

The video via Malo Beats, takes a look at old-school beatmaking with the Rossum SP-1200 sampler.

The Rossum SP-1200 is a reissue of the classic E-mu Systems SP-1200. E-mu Systems co-founder and original SP-12 and SP-1200 designer Dave Rossum duplicated the analog and digital electronics of the original 12-bit drum machine sampler.


The Rossum SP-1200 maintains exactly the same 12-bit linear data format and 26.04 kHz sampling rate as all vintage SP-12 and SP-1200 units. As a result, the unique character of SP-1200’s original pitch shifting and its audible aliasing and imaging artifacts are preserved identically.
