KOMA Elektronik Intros Chromaplane Polyphonic Electromagnetic Synthesizer

KOMA Elektronik and Passepartout Duo have introduced Chromaplane, a unique new polyphonic electromagnetic instrument.

The Chromaplane features a touchless interface, organic analog sounds, and an intuitive way of playing, all made possible by invisible electromagnetic fields.

KOMA says that the Chromaplane “combines the expressivity of traditional acoustic instruments, with the endless experimentation of electronic sound design.”

Grayscale introduces Nexus Advanced Macro Controller for Eurorack Modular Systems

Grayscale has introduced a new Eurorack module, Nexus, that they describe as an advanced macro controller.

Nexus brings the unique keyframing concept of the Mutable Instruments Frames back to the Eurorack format. While retaining the same 18hp width as the original, Nexus provides eight more VCA channels, a faster workflow, an improved hardware spec, and numerous new features intended to provide an unprecedented level of control over complex modular patches.

Keyframing is a technique borrowed from digital animation. A keyframe marks the VCA levels of 12 different channels at a single moment in time. Up to 32 keyframes can be stored on a timeline, and the timeline position is controlled by a single large knob.

When the timeline position is changed and levels vary between keyframes on the same channel, various interpolation algorithms may be applied to create smooth transitions between different levels.

The timeline position can be controlled manually by turning the large knob, modulated by an external control voltage, or sequenced with a trigger source.

Nexus is available now for $399.

Ploytec Revival, New Mod brings USB 2.0 Compatibility to Legacy Devices

Ploytec -Audio specialist has launched a Kickstarter campaign for its latest USB audio format converter, Ploytec Revival.

Ploytec Revival promises to being modern USB 2.0 compatibility to legacy audio devices. Here’s what they say about it:

“How many practical devices – mixing consoles, DJ decks, controllers, and many others that sound great and provide exciting performances and creative workflows, unfortunately, fall out of their computer-based application when suddenly the USB protocol is no longer supported by new computers.

Ploytec Revival provides a good connection again.”

The first version of Ploytec Revival will support the DJ mixing consoles XONE:2D, XONE:4D, and XONE:DB4. Other products with USB protocols that no longer work on current computers will follow in the future; Ploytec Revival can be updated via USB.

Production of Ploytec Revival is being funded via a Kickstarter Campaign, and it is available to project backers for about $206.
