Arturia introduces 303-inspired Acid V, ‘A Mutated Classic’

Arturia drops Acid V, a new plugin emulation of Roland TB-303 Bass Line synth.

Arturia today introduced Acid V, a virtual instrument that offers their take on the classic Roland TB-303 sound.

Does the world need another take on the 303, especially when Behringer offers a hardware 303 knockoff for around $130? Yes, apparently.

The Acid V promises to be as closely modelled on the much-loved bassline box as you’d expect.

Arturia says that Acid V is designed to bring the classic acid sound into the modern production era. They say that they’ve combined component-level modeling to accurately capture the originals sound, and married that to upgraded features and effects, to make the Acid V sound “darker, deeper, and more impactful than the original”.

Features:

  • Evolved sequencer & arpeggiator
  • Advanced Modulation system for evolving sounds
  • Built-in Distortion
  • Sub Oscillator and vibrato
  • Scales and Transmutation
  • 17x High grade effects

Other features include vibrato that lets you get into FM territory, 14 distortion algorithms, an easy-to-use step sequencer, and the ability to drag and drop your sequences into your DAW.

There are loads of 303 emulations out there already – Roland’s own plugin, D16 Phosycon 2 and AudioRealism Bass Line 3 to name just three of them.

An in-depth look at Acid V and it’s capabilities:

Acid V runs on PC and Mac in VST/AU/AAX formats, and existing Arturia customers are advised to log in to their accounts for an introductory discount. Everyone else can currently purchase it for $/€99 through Sept 14 (regular price will be $/€199). You can download a demo from the Arturia website. V Collection 9 discounts are also available.

Roland V-Synth 20th Anniversary Retrospective

Paulee Alex Bow, synthesist, shared this 20th anniversary retrospective look at the Roland V-Synth.

In recent years, much of the attention in the synth world has turned to analog instruments, with digital synths sometimes getting forgotten or even maligned. As the prices for vintage analog gear have skyrocketed, though, it’s a good time to take another look at instruments like the V-Synth.

When the Roland V-Synth was introduced in 2003, Sound On Sound called it “a sound designer’s dream machine.” The instrument offers a wide range of synthesis options, flash RAM for sample storage, lots of hands-on control, double D-Beams, lots of effects, sampling and more.

Paulee Alex Bow (Magical Synth Adventure) describes the V-Synth as ‘epic and futuristic’. Watch the video and share your thoughts in the comments!

Swiss Synthesizer Meeting 2023 Event Coming Sept 23

Organizers of the Swiss Synthesizer Meeting let us know that this year’s event will be held Saturday, 23 September, from 14 to 22 at the Gran Rex Auditorium, Locarno.

The event is an opportunity to jam with other synthesists and see lots of synth gear in action.

What they say about it:

“This year we will perform in a very cool venue with a high-quality audio system: the Gran Rex Auditorium in old town Locarno (Ticino, Switzerland).

The jam session will take place as usual in two parts, with 1-hour pause in between. During this break the musicians will get some fresh air, as well as be available to answer questions from the audience about the world of synthesizers.

For the whole duration of the event it will also be possible to take a look and play half a dozen rare synthesizers: Theo Bloderer of Greatsynthesizers will exhibit some of his treasures and be available for questions.”
