Free SampleScience Stylo Synthesis, a virtual instrument

SampleScience has announced the release of a new virtual instrument, Stylo Synthesis.

Stylo Synthesis is a virtual recreation of the famous Stylophone portable organ from the 60s. According to the product announcement, “most Stylophone plugins and libraries use very short samples that don’t reflect the unstable nature of this instrument.” For Stylo Synthesis, each note has been sampled for 5 seconds to capture these “magic imperfections.” The result, developers say, is the most accurate Stylophone emulation, preserving the attack and sustain of the original instrument.

Stylo Synthesis (Plugin Version) Features:

  • 1 multi-sampled instrument
  • 1 sample per note
  • Multi-LFO
  • Room reverb
  • Lowpass/highpass filter
  • Low-CPU usage
  • Amplitude range controls
  • 3 voice modes: polyphonic, monophonic, and legato
  • Available as a VST/VST3/AU plugin instrument for Windows and macOS.

Stylo Synthesis is also available as Kontakt and Decent Sampler libraries.

SampleScience is offering all versions of their Stylo Synthesis virtual instrument on a “name a fair price” basis on the SampleScience website, where more information and specifications are also available.

The NAMM Foundation and MIDI Association launch The MIDI Fund

News from  the 2022 NAMM Show last week: The NAMM Foundation and the MIDI Association have announced the MIDI Fund, a new donor-advised fund within The NAMM Foundation.

As described in their announcement, the MIDI Fund will support projects and programs that “advance engagement in music-making and the varied and unique options to make, create and explore music made possible by MIDI,” the Musical Instrument Digital Interface that allows musical instruments to connect to computers, tablets, cell phones, and each other.

The first major project the MIDI Fund is focusing on is the development of a MIDI curriculum and certification program to raise awareness about MIDI in education at secondary and post-secondary schools, as well as for manufacturer and reseller staff members.

Current work includes:

Establishment of standardized, readily/publicly available MIDI education content

Creation, launch, and active management of a MIDI certification program

Find out more information about the MIDI Fund and to donate, at The NAMM Foundation website. For more information about MIDI, including the Core MIDI 2.0 Specs, visit The MIDI Association website.

FAC Bandit 2.0 Features:

  • Extend crossover frequency range
  • Full responsive UI
  • New audio input widget (standalone app)
  • Presets management improvement, import/export handled by the AuV3(zip)
  • User presets are now sorted
  • Addition of Tip Jar view
  • Various fixes and improvements

The updated FAC Bandit audio effects app is available now via the Apple App Store for $8.99. More information is available at the Fred Anton Corvest website.
