ContinuuCon 2024, held April 26–28 in the Pittsburgh suburb of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, synthesists Christophe Duquesne and Ed Eagan discussed their work with composer Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack of Dune 2.
They’re joined by music journalist Geary Yealton, who helps lead the discussion.
Zimmer hired ContinuuCon organizers and EaganMatrix developers Edmund Eagan and Christophe Duquesne to design and perform sounds for the soundtrack, along with Expressive E’s Guillaume Bonneau.
In the video, Eagan & Duquesne discuss their process of working with Zimmer, discuss the unique collection of gear that they brought to the project and demonstrate some of their work on the soundtrack.
Developer and synthesist Geert Bevin (Software Engineering Lead and Product Designer at Moog Music, LinnStrument firmware, MPE specification) shared this video demo, exploring the expressive capabilities of the Expressive E Osmose synthesizer.
“This video conveys my initial impressions, some playing tips, and how to add even more expression with motion control through MidiWrist Unleashed”, notes Bevin. “At the end I combine it all in a short performance.”
Bevin’s setup features the Osmose, his Apple Watch app MidiWrist Unleashed, and the CME WIDI wireless MIDI connector.
The Expressive E Osmose is a unique synthesizer that combines the powerful modular synth engine Eagan Matrix with a new expressive keyboard design. The Osmose give you continuous timbrel and volume control over each note you play, and you can also add vibrato and pitch bends by moving your finger left and right.
The review covers the features of the Expressive E Osmose, lots of sonice demos and some of the pros and cons of the instrument.
