Live Modular Synth Performance of Subotnick, Ravel

Synthesist, composer and synth designer Peter Grenader shared this video, capturing a live performance by re:VOLT, live at the San Fransisco Electronic Music Festival.

The performance features two pieces: Maurice Ravel’s Scarbo; and Morton Subotnick’s Sidewinder.

Scarbo comes from Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit, a three-movement piano work from 1908. Sidewinder, from 1971, is a ‘tape music’ piece, created on a Buhcla modular synthesizer. Here, it has been reimagined for live performance.

re:VOLT (Jill Fraser, Peter Grenader + Thomas Klepper) were recorded live at the 2023 San Fransisco Electronic Music Festival, September 16, 2023 at The Lab.
