Sequential Prophet-5 Now Available As Official Software Synth

Sequential and GForce Software have introduced the first official Prophet~5 virtual instrument, a software synth that they say recreates the “sound, feel and character of the original”.

The new Prophet-5 plugin recreates the Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 versions of the original instrument, including their respective SSM and Curtis filter and envelope characteristics.

The software retains the original Prophet-5 architecture, while extending it with dual-layer operation, expanded modulation capabilities, integrated effects, MPE support, and modern preset management tools.

Features:

  • Officially developed in partnership with Sequential
  • The “most authentic Prophet~5 experience available” in software
  • Rev1 & Rev2 SSM and Rev3 Curtis filter and envelope characteristics
  • Dual Layer architecture with Layer, Split and Alternate modes with up to 10 voices per layer
  • Newly Redesigned X-Modifiers – Assign dedicated envelopes and LFOs to almost every parameter
  • Two selectable FX slots plus dedicated Delay, Reverb and Pan Spread effects
  • Selectable FX include Chorus, Phaser, Filter, Distortion, Tremolo and Compressor
  • Over 460 extensive, professionally designed presets, including the original 38 factory patches from 1978
  • Independent arpeggiator and chord modes for each layer
  • Fully resizable high-resolution interface
  • Powerful patch browser with tagging and search
  • Full MPE compatibility for expressive performance
  • Comprehensive MIDI CC mapping throughout

Unusable Engineering’s Plugins Now Available on Windows

Developer Rasmus Nyåker of Unusable Engineering let us know that all of their products are now available on Windows, in addition to MacOS.

The Unusable Engineering line contains 9 audio effects, plus Curves & Membranes, a mono synth built around Bézier wave shaping, orbital motion, and a membrane-style filter model.

Nyåker says that their goal is not to pile on options, but to make software that feels immediate, visually engaging, rewarding to explore and maybe even a bit surprising.

Details on each of their plugins are available at the Unusable Engineering site.

Craig Padilla & Marvin Allen – Architects Of Time Stripped

Synthesist Craig Padilla shared this video, capturing a live studio performance, with Marvin Allen, of their track Architects Of Time.

This was recorded live in Padilla’s studio on February 4, 2023. It’s the original live version of the song, before additional production was added to finish it for their album Unfolding Skies.

The album was released on earlier this year on Spotted Peccary Music.

You can preview Unfolding Skies below, and the album is available via Bandcamp.
