Ambient Improvisation For Fender Rhodes + Synthesizer

This video, via Minneapolis-based synthesist Midera, captures a live ambient improvisation for Fender Rhodes piano and Kawai SX-240.

The Rhodes & synth pad combination may bring to mind some of the ’70s/’80s recording of Vangelis, for some. Midera takes things in a different direction, though, creating a soundscape that’s probably more influenced by the recordings of Budd, Eno & Lanois.

Electroacoustic Composition With A Grand Piano + Modular Synthesizer

In the video, Frap Tools‘ Francesco Gennari discusses creating an electroacoustic piece that integrates the sound and articulation of an electric piano into a complex modular synthesizer patch patch.“The piece is not simply a juxtaposition of piano and synthesizer,” notes Gennari, “but rather a balanced environment where the acoustic and electronic sounds complement and influence each other.”

Gennari starts off with an introduction and performance, and then digs into the technical details of the performance, including mic setup, processing of the piano and details for the modular patch.
