The latest video from The Unperson takes a deep look at classic Eurorack modular combo of patching the Mutable Instruments Rings module into the Mutable Instruments Clouds.
Rings is a resonator module, with some interesting tricks. Most notably, the resonator is ‘pingable’, is capable of physical modelling, and can be used as a polyphonic synth voice. Clouds module is a granular audio processor and texture synthesizer.
Both modules have been hugely popular with synthesists, because they introduced new capabilities to Eurorack. And, in combination, they make it possible for synthesists to create huge, spacious sounds using a minimal system:
The video discusses the Rings into Clouds combo, offers plenty of musical examples, and highlights why the two modules are still some of the most popular in Eurorack.
Fingerlab has introduced DM10 Drum & Synth Machine, a sequel to their award-winning DM1 Drum Machine from 2012.
Updated with a modern audio engine, DM10 has all the capabilities of DM1, plus many new features: Bass & Lead synths, AudioUnit support, polyrhythmic tracks, new FX modules, and more.
AudioThing has introduced SX1000, an emulation of the JEN SX1000, a vintage Italian synth released in 1978, for iOS, Linux, Mac & Windows.
What they have to say about it:
“The SX1000 was one of the earliest affordable analog synthesizers, designed for musicians seeking hands-on control without breaking the bank.
We have carefully emulated the SX1000’s M110 chip, and also expanded its capabilities by adding features like polyphonic mode, a sub-oscillator (down to -3 octaves), and additional controls for legato modes.
We’ve also integrated an arpeggiator borrowed from a vintage classic polysynth and enhanced the sonic possibilities with four effects featuring flexible routing.”
AudioThing SX1000 Video Intro:
Features:
1 Osc (saw, square, pulse)

2 envelopes (volume, filter)
24 dB/oct resonant filter
Oversampling
4 Effects (echo, spring reverb, wave folder, flanger)
Arpeggiator
