Steve Roach’s Ambient Classic ‘Structures from Silence’ gets 40th Anniversary Reissue

Projekt has released Structures from Silence (40th Anniversary Remaster), a reissue of Steve Roach’s ambient classic, with limited edition LP, 1CD, & 3CD formats.

What they say about the release:

Structures from Silence‘s breathing, suspended embrace of atmospheres and serene melodies instantly struck a chord with listeners in 1984; the album continues to reiterate its timeless resonations with new listeners today.

On this landmark recording of gentle proportions, the three long-form tracks were the birth of something new: an original and pure statement striking a balance between diaphanous and understated, deep and reflective. The listening experience evokes a sense of silence within the music as well as the space between the chords. It expresses the breath of life and offers a meditation on delicate strands of subtle awareness.

“Structures from Silence remains a still point in suspended time for me when looking back over the span of my life immersed within the creative currents of sound and silence. Over 40 years ago the pieces on this album were created from my sole (soul’s) desire to live within a sonic space that would provide a sense of safety, soul nurturing comfort and time suspension,” notes Roach.

“There was no original intention to make an album around these pieces. They were created purely as a sanctuary for my emerging personal journey as an artist. Once the three tracks were recorded it eventually became clear they belonged together in what would become the Structures from Silence album we have today and presented in this beautifully remastered 2024 edition. The response this music has reflected back to me over all these years is a humble reminder filled with gratitude, of the essential, pure need to listen deep into the moment, respond and create from this place without question.”

The 3CD deluxe edition includes two bonus discs created in 2013, and remastered for this edition.

Avid Pro Tools 2024.3 Now Available, Here’s What’s New

Avid’s new Pro Tools update brings “music creators powerful new ways to work with MIDI”. Pro Tools 2024.3 also benefits from live re-rendering in Dolby Atmos Renderer and improved integration with Pro Tools Sketch.

Avid’s Pro Tools DAW has received its first update of the year. Now available to download, Pro Tools 2024.3 arrives with a range of new MIDI tools and now offers support for third-party MIDI effect plugins.

Pro Tools 2024.3 introduces the concept of MIDI Chains, a new way of routing and processing MIDI data within the DAW. As mentioned, this allows you to make use of third-party MIDI effect plugins, but also to quickly and easily create custom MIDI routings between various tracks and instruments.

Pitch Control and Velocity Control applies transformation to both pitch and velocity of incoming notes and can also be used to apply randomized processing to your melodies, chords and beats to create evolving patterns and textures.

In addition to these three plugins, Pro Tools has partnered with several plugin developers to offer bundled MIDI effects plugins to those on its Artist, Studio and Ultimate plans: these include Modalics EON-Arp, a creative arpeggiator plugin, Audiomodern’s Riffer 3, a sophisticated MIDI sequencer and automatic pattern generator, and Pitch Innovations’ Groove Shaper, a rhythm generator.

The latest iteration of Pro Tools also adds support for live re-rendering in Dolby Atmos for the bundled Dolby Atmos Renderer, a tool for rendering and previewing Atmos mixes from within the DAW.

Avid’s clip-based app Pro Tools Sketch has also been updated with improve drag-and-drop functionality between Sketch and Pro Tools.

Last week, Ableton released Live 12, a new version of its flagship DAW that also features an expanded array of tools for MIDI generation and transformation. Find out more on Avid website.
