Free Soft Imperial Piano; Vienna Symphonic Library’s piano plugin

Orchestral instrument specialist Vienna Symphonic Library has unveiled its latest free plugin, the Soft Imperial piano.

This is designed to bring the sound of the Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand to your DAW, and promises “clear and transparent tones” that can be used in all manner of styles.

The samples for the instrument were captured in Vienna’s second studio, the Silent Stage, which has what the company deems to be a “tight and controlled ambience”. You can tweak the sound in the supplied Vienna Synchron Player, which houses the library and comes with various presets. These include dry and big hall patches.

Like Vienna’s other free instruments, Big Bang Orchestra and Fujara Flute, the Soft Imperial can be activated via iLok or on your computer without the need for a physical key (watch the video below for an explanation). You can download it now for PC and Mac from the Vienna Symphonic Library website, and it runs in VST/AU/AAX formats.

Behringer introduces Space FX Multi-FX Eurorack Module

Behringer has introduced Space FX, a 24-bit digital stereo effects module for Eurorack systems.

The Behringer Space FX features 32 effect algorithms, with up to 3 adjustable parameters. The effects include: 15 reverb types including rooms, chambers, halls, plates, and springs; 8 different delay and modulation effects including echo, chorus, flanger, phaser, and tremolo; as well as special effects such as pitch shifter, talkbox, LFO filter, and clipper distortion.

Other features include combinations of the different effect types for further sonic manipulation. While the module does not offer any modulation inputs, a tap button lets you manually sync delays and other time-based effects.

The Behringer Space FX is available to retail for $87. The company says that “As soon as we receive the chips required to put this into production, SPACE FX will ship immediately.”
